RE: New Cayman toughens up

Looks far better than the old effort which really looked like a bag of s**t.
Porsche designed the last one so that only midgets and middle earth dwellers could fit in it comfortably for long periods, much like every Z4 that has been.
Hopefully the new model will be a tad more spacious. And I thought Germans were tall...
I'm 6ft and there's probably still 3 inches of travel left behind the seat for me in my CS.Porsche designed the last one so that only midgets and middle earth dwellers could fit in it comfortably for long periods, much like every Z4 that has been.

Ooh, it's on the UK configurator now too - play time over lunch!
It's on the site, not the configurator (at time of posting). Now emailing links to my business partner who has a cayman s ATM. I'll get the bugger back for what he did to me 3 months ago.

I much prefer it to the old one like some of you already said. I never liked the air intakes on the old one with those angled slats.
The elephant in the room for me though is; based upon current pricing will the new M135i coupe (when it appears) dip under 5 seconds to 60, handle rather well too (as Harris has pointed out on video) and, like for like on spec be £20-£25k cheaper?

I like the new Cayman, but it just so expensive in comparison to the TT. Even if we were to be unfair and compare the brand new Cayman to the soon to be replaced TT, it is very hard to see where the extra money has gone', apart from the badge that is!
To my eyes, it isn't as nice looking, the interior still doesn't look or feel as special, it's not much faster, its running costs are astronmical by comparison and it’s hugely more expensive. I know its supposedly better to drive, but TBH I drove a Cayman S Design Edition 1 recently, and because the power is all at the top of the rev range, it doesn't feel as fast as even the 2.0T at normal speeds - maybe I'm just used to a more linear torque curve. The second thing that I found annoying was the thing that Cayman owners rant on about - the 'feel' of driving the car. The steering wheel chatter, the heavy clutch, notchy gears - I always thought these were all great things but do you know what, I tired of all of the constant feedback - not exactly relaxing when you want it to be!
It will be interesting to see how the Mk3 TT compares to the new Cayman given that Audi have said that it will be much more of a driver's car…one thing's for sure, it will still be an awful lot cheaper!

It's gone into creating a bespoke platform so the car actually handles half-decently. No car with a transverse engine slung out over the front axle is really going to compete. If you know Cayman owners who complain about the feedback the car gives, then they bought not only the wrong car but entirely the wrong class of car, because they clearly didn't want a sports car. If you think the Cayman is bad for that, try driving a proper sports car.

Um, according to Audi the TT-S ( 270 bhp ) is 36k and the TT-RS ( 340 bhp ) is 46k.Edited by TTGuy on Thursday 29th November 13:55
Cayman is 39 and 48, hardly much more expensive.
And you get a mid-engined, sweet handling, rear wheel drive car.
As for the TT looking better, really?
To my eyes the TT is not pretty and in RS guise has loads of very fussy ( tacky ) styling touches.

Looks cool and not too big/not too small.
I'll have one without the engine, transmission and brakes, and then take it to Ruf to squeeze-in GT2 running gear and anchors etc
I went to view a 986 Boxster that someone had done the exact same too. Looked absolutely mental, in short.I'll have one without the engine, transmission and brakes, and then take it to Ruf to squeeze-in GT2 running gear and anchors etc

Auto Express Preview from LA.
Looks better in video than pictures I reckon. Still not convinced by that colour though!
