RE: Last Saabs up for auction
Discussion
Wonder if somebody can help me, I know I'm about to win the auction for the rhd 9-5 estate, but when I go to www.comparealltheinsurancecompaniesthatpaymeabacka... there is no 9-5 estate?! Any ideas how I could insure these cars?

Dont know about the insurance, but i have to ask:is there any possibilityto get it road legal??
From what i understand, there is no chance to get it "legal" here in Sweden.
Anyway,Good Luck!!

Yes, there is. The Single Vehicle Approval service should let it pass if the car is fully finished to road specification. If it's unfinished, it could be a lot more difficult.....to get it road legal??

Big Saab fan myself and shame the company has gone bust but hey if you can snap up one of these you've got yourself a very rare car that no one else will be driving, although spare parts?
My mum owns the same Saab 9-5 aero bottom of the article. Not only is it fast, but it's good on fuel and feels brand new every time you go out in it. The seats are absolutely superb and as I said it's bloody quick, especially in 4th gear.

Sad to see Saab go away. I've owned two in my life and they were wonderful cars (the older being better than the more recent ones). GM killed them and nearly every other thing they touched some time back. All attempts to revive them failed as low-volume mid-priced sedans just isn't a sustainable business model.
Sad as I feel to say so, I would run, not walk away from these 'last of their kind' models. Not clear they can be registered, few if any spare parts are available and they likely will be worthless for resale in just a few more months. Just let them go peacefully but don't be part of their mistakes by paying good money after bad.

I used to drive a 1999 2.3t (low pressure) 170bhp a few years ago.
Brilliant car. Comfortable, spacious (not as spacious as the car it replaced, which was Volvo 850) and refined.
Smooth suspension was particulary impressive.
170bhp was enough to shift it and 4 speed auto was one of the best I've seen in my life (thats comparing to merc, bmw, jag etc. boxes).
Quick kick-down, very easy gear selection using accelerator pedal - it was really easy to tell the box what you want it to do (or maybe the box was just reading my mind?).
It was pretty economical, averaging well over 30 in mixed driving. Once on a run (steady 50-60 mph B roads) I've averaged 45 MPG, yes it was steady granny driving but still, pretty damn impressive from 2.3 turbo petrol!
As for reliability, apart from the igniotion module, it was pretty much fault free through 150k miles that my family had it.
Only let down was the cornering ability, but I guess we have Vauxhall underpinnings to thank for that.
I recently started thinking about picking up something like 02 95 Aero estate. They were always good value but now they should be well into complete bargain territory.

Eh, doesn't that model have the old Saab engines, which were meant to be ridiculously tough when they weren't busy clogging up the oil system?
I've been told otherwise but hey-ho. It hasn't put me off getting another one. You're right about the oil clogging. My 9-5 is going in for a sump drop on Wednesday. Better to be safe than sorry.
