True dat.

Looks very unprepossessing in the photos, but oddly seems(ed) to work in the metal.

Might as well start compiling a list:

Gumpert
Weisseman
TVR
Saab
De Tomaso

Any others.

The good news though is that the Chinese are ripping of BMW's and making MG's for us. When are we going to learn.

Too sad to vote on and sorry to see Saab down to the bones. They will be missed by many.

Having read that Autocar couldn't even get a new windscreen for their Long-Term Saab 9-5 about 18 months ago does make an auction purchase a tad risky though. I will pass on the offer thanks.

Talbot
Chrysler
Hillman
Simca
Matra
BL (as a whole)
Datsun (why the rename (ever)?)

I appreciate your concern, but it need not be a problem. My Dad bought a new unsold Rover 75 V8 in 2006. He still has it, and it has been reliable, and getting parts no problem at all. Only about 100 of these were built (plus about 800 MG versions, perhaps someone has the exact numbers) so these rarer Saabs may well be able to keep going for many years to come.

SAAB parts is a separate company and is still running healthy as far as I know. I think most spare parts should be back in production by now I think, anyone heard something else?

Neo Bros brought back a load of spares from Sweden this year: http://www.uksaabs.eu/UKS/viewtopic.php?f=23&t...

Spare parts a plenty. Loads of genuine Saab still available too.

I've got a 2000 9-5 Aero HOT that I bought as a stop gap but still driving it a year later! Highly underrated car in my opinion but that means those of us that know will get a bargain!

Some preventative maintenance to sort out the breather system and clean the sump and oil strainer and it will go for many more miles!

However even on a car this old parts are very expensive and hard to get hold of - so I really don't envy anyone with these new ones.....as nice as they may sound they will cost a fortune to run, imagine having to fabricate a pollen filter for example rather that buying one off the shelf?!!

If you're buying one to run you might as well forget it.

Yes, there is. The Single Vehicle Approval service should let it pass if the car is fully finished to road specification. If it's unfinished, it could be a lot more difficult.....
As you say SVA, or IVA as it is now, won't be a problem for a complete car.

I'd be a bit more worried about getting its certificate of title. Without that you've got no hope.

These threads always amuse me, much like the TVR ones. People saying they'd love one and its such a shame they don't excist anymore. You could have had one (admitedly not the estate) but there was a time you could and nobody did.... Hence the current situation. You all bought 520d's instead wink
Not a great example. TVR when sold was doing quite well. Then the Russian Oli got it and stuffed it to put on his mantlepiece. I would love to have had one but insurance and price of the Sagaris were just too much. Perhaps now though with a set of snap on's.

I heard Weissmannnn filed for Brupcy.
What is annoying is that in some cases they simply got taken over and absorbed, which is fine. But several have just been hung out to dry.
Rover - The management team made a complete mess of it and killed it.
Saab is a good example. In order to reduce capacity GM just killed it. It was a niche maker but I had a 9000 and it was brilliant. Look at Jag now after Ford ownership. Look at VW do you remember the crap they put out in the 70's. All Beetle variants, simply aweful.
TVR was in good shape. Had a decent range. The 350, Sagaris, Cerbera, had bespoke engines etc. Not surprise Wheeler sold it. But then to simply let it collapse.

Wow, thats great shedding. I'd love one of these but don't have the balls or the ability to find a decent one
Just dive in head first. I did!

Once/If you've purchased one, get the sump dropped and give it a service and you're away! Then off for a Remap, which mine will be soon (I had the sump dropped today).

Bought this at the weekend. £1500 for a 250bhp Estate - not bad, plenty of parts and has had the sump dropped.
