And, to everyone who's no sure - this is from the original press material at the 1974 launch, so should hopefully (he says) clear up the spoiler question...

I might be wrong, but if that is a 930 turbo should it not have the 'tea tray' rear spoiler, not the 'whale tail' the pictured car has?

The front fog lights, headlamp washer nozzles and spoiler suggest it is an early 3.0litre car. The colour suggests otherwise but it may well be a trick of the light.

Porsche, same style year after year - applause.
Aston Martin, same style year after year - criticism.
Why?
There is more criticism on this forum of Porsche styling being too 'samey' - for example of the Porsche Design Boss interview article – load of people complaining about it.

I love Porsche styling and the new 911 and Boxster are great examples of this. The 911 being a timeless classic but still modern and looks great any angle. And the new Boxster is one of the nicest looking cars ever, any price [in my opinion]

I also think all current/recent Astons [excluding the Rapide] look amazing. It’s a tough task for Aston to update the styling of these cars as they isn’t much wrong with them in that respect.

To me the definitive incarnation of the 911.

I believe subsequent versions (from a design point of view) have not and will not better it.

Love the 930/933. It just looks ready to kick off on anything and even it's own driver if he nudges it the wrong way.

Nice.

I would love a 3.2 or 964 to modify with a 993 engine etc but my 3.2 Sport is too original to mess with.

If the love of this shape is so universal on here, how come there is so much criticism about Porsche staying close to it? (For the record, I never really liked 911 styling until the 993 came in).

OK, let's rephrase the question. Ever since Porsche started they raided the VW parts bin - applause.
Whenever Aston Martin do the same ( with Ford for example) - criticism.
I think that essentially the british have a love affair with foreign cars - green fields etc. Look at the vituperation that tended to greet Mclaren vis-a-vis Ferrari
