I'm not sure I agree. My very limited understanding is that the above photo is an XJR12 - the last of the V12 cars. I think that particular car is the one which Karun Chandhok piloted at this year's Goodwood Festival of Speed. The car which spawned the Mazda was actually the later, atmo XJR14. After the 1991 season, a couple of the 14s were converted to run the Judd MV10 engine. This was known as the MXR-1. The earlier, rotary, Mazda Group C cars had nothing to do with the TWR Jaguars - to the best of my knowledge.
I didn't look close enough, you are correct, the 14 is quite a bit different isn't it.

In the past I have mainly gone for sensible, safe colours such as silver and errr silver.I have now gone for an orange Cayman S Sport. So far peoples responses have been very positive but there is a niggling feeling that this car/colour combo might attract the wrong sort of attention.

For those of you that have had bright, dare I say, in your face cars what have been the positives and the negatives??
so seeing as yellow is bright it kinda counts wink
Fair enough.... WhenI get my Mustang, I actually want a Black one but toyin with the idea of an Orange one....would look awesome decked in Cervini Livery I think!!??

Those pics are a few years old now. Car was repainted in 2012, but still retained some orange!

Liquid yellow Clio 200 here, bought as a weekend toy so was only ever going to be a bright colour. Loads of positive remarks, zero negative. Hue can make a difference though as most other yellow cars I see are pastel shades that look awful.

Attracts bugs to the point where I'm fairly sure wasps are trying to mate with it.

Nice and easy to find in any carpark filled with dreary grey/black/blue/red boxes.

Also, i hope i'm less likely to get hit by someone as the whole car is hi-viz!!

Go for the orange OP, you'll make the world a better place biggrin

If I hadn't a company car, I would be bimbling around in an Electric Orange Focus ST.

Life's too short to let decisions about things like car colour be dictated by what other people think.
This

Laugh all you want, but this was an aspirational vehicle for me. I come from a less than privelidged background and it was and acheivable target.

When it first came out I decided I wanted one, when I was finally in the financial position to afford and run one I was torn by the colour. I wanted the orange one, but would black/white be easier to live with? In the end I thought 'in for a penny, in for a pound' and got the colour I wanted. I have no intention lf ever selling the car so didn't have to worry about resale.

On the whole the response have been positive. The negative comments I get are more about the mpg than the color, and these tend to be from bores who view there car as another consumable tool, normally a 5 door silver diesel of some description, and I literally couldn't value there opinion less. The ones that really make me laugh are the company car owners with generic-o-rama audi/bmws.

Problems?

After a review on top gear everyone assumes a benefit seeking scumbag is driving.

Very few people will give way

Your driving better be flawless, because the slightest indiscretion will be responded to with "look at that prick in the orange sports car"

Prepare for endless mid life crisis jokes

matching paint is a bh for scrapes and stone chips.
The noise these make is awesome too. Yours looks great, especially with the black alloys.

I have always wondered are the vents in the bonnet fixed? Do they open and close based on cooling need? is this automatic or does the driver decide what level of cooling is required before a drive? or possibly there is a leave like in a defender.

I had a feeling the new porker on the block was going to be you, certainly brightens up my day.

I drive past you most mornings, sadly only in a silver Ford Focus these days!

Do you like my new car.

Never seen an orange E46 before! Is that an 'Individual' colour option?

I've got a nice, subtle, Tangiers Orange Range Rover Sport! Sadly for sale, but I do love it and generally get odd looks/laughter and "that rocks" comments!

Yep, Coloured Gold Metallic.

I like the G4 cars, did you use it as a normal car as well?
