I remember when I picked Orange for mine, and the salesman gave it the 'sucking in through his teeth' as if to say, 'I won't be buying that back!'

My thought was that I wasn't buying it for the next owner

I love Orange, and that Vantage on the first page is giving me ideas!

Laugh all you want, but this was an aspirational vehicle for me. I come from a less than privelidged background and it was and acheivable target.

When it first came out I decided I wanted one, when I was finally in the financial position to afford and run one I was torn by the colour. I wanted the orange one, but would black/white be easier to live with? In the end I thought 'in for a penny, in for a pound' and got the colour I wanted. I have no intention lf ever selling the car so didn't have to worry about resale.

On the whole the response have been positive. The negative comments I get are more about the mpg than the color, and these tend to be from bores who view there car as another consumable tool, normally a 5 door silver diesel of some description, and I literally couldn't value there opinion less. The ones that really make me laugh are the company car owners with generic-o-rama audi/bmws.

Problems?

After a review on top gear everyone assumes a benefit seeking scumbag is driving.

Very few people will give way

Your driving better be flawless, because the slightest indiscretion will be responded to with "look at that prick in the orange sports car"

Prepare for endless mid life crisis jokes

matching paint is a bh for scrapes and stone chips.

I searched for a Deep purple S1 Elise for a long time because I loved the colour. However once I had one I wished I had a yellow one because they are so much easier to see. so when looking for a 7 a like, I went for a bright as I could find and lots of people still don't see me but the car looks great.

I don't consider my car to be orange, the colour is 'saffron', although it's often referred to as 'gay gold'. Or ginger....

It can definitely polarise opinions.

I meant to add in my post... I did used to have an Orange car... "Sunset", though, I think it was called. A Nissan 350z with Alezan interior.

Quite, quite orange... inside and out!

It was great fun, but flatter or more peal orange finishes stand out even more!

Had a signal-orange Ford Capri 3-litre, BSE 325S, thought it was well-sporty. It was a long time ago tho and I was around 19 at the time. Might still have some pics somewhere, will have a look.

A couple of mates had Mk2 Escort RS2000s in orange which looked great on polished RS 4-spoke wheels.

This car is only partially orange but a very rare colour combination: -

This one worth a look. Check out the price!

Can't wait for them to drop to the low £20k bracket, but it will have to be orange.

I rented that in the US last year. I want it badly. Orange suits it so well.

I wish more people bought cars that weren't grey, silver, black, dark blue, etc... it's so dull. We need all the colour we can get in this country! (especially at this time of year!).

This only ever got positive comments in the 5 weeks I had it - mainly about the colour more than what the car was.
If (when) I return to the Lotus fold it will have to be orange of some sort (this ones Burnt Orange).

In about 93 I had an orange Allegro (1500HL iirc).

It got respec'.
The girl I sold it to stuck black spots on it do it looked like a ladybird.

(I'm aware that's not a 1500 but more like an Allegro 2, but you get the gist.)

I hankered after one of these in this colour for my first car back in 1986.

I ended up with a powder blue Chevette.....
