£1500 for a paint job that will be ruined by an accidental splash of fuel?!?!? Madness.

£1500 dear lord thats a lot of money to spend and its not that good a job as they clearly didnt mask up the headlight rubbers as they too are covered in PlastiDip.

There was a thread running on Detailing World where a guy did his MGF with the rattle cans and by all accounts its turned out fine....at £1500 I think you have had your pants properly pulled down there.

But each to their own....fair play for choosing a VERY different colour though and not following the crowd with white/black/grey though.

A nice car utterly ruined.

Just think where the 1.5k could have gone? New suspension for example.

Utter idiocy.

Well it isn't that bad. Really not my cuppa, maybe a matte world rally blue could work.

hehe if you're willing to spend £1500 on that why not just go for a proper respray?

That looks...ahem...interesting around the headlights...

My satin black MX5 paint job cost me £50 in rattle cans. It looks dreadful, obviously, but at least it was cheap and not purple.

I bought an RX7 that had had a rattle can satin black respray. It only took a weekend and a bottle of thinners to get back to the original red paint underneath.

What does this stuff do that a cheap DIY paint job doesn't do?
Apart from cost money and turn manky around the fuel filler, obviously.

£1500 is at the cheap end of the wrapping spectrum mind, and <50% of the cost of a respray which then creates the further "issues" insofar as its not reversible, will potentially effect resale etc etc.

Having not seen how the plasticdip bonds together, I am not sure how easy it would be to peel the dip off the harder to reach places on an entirely resprayed car. Mind you, the same could be said of wrapping.

My car is due a colour change in 2013 and I am exploring options as to whether to go to the spray booth, wrap shop and this is another potential. Not purple though...
It's easy to peel off - it's a rubbery substance, it will just pull out of panel gaps. And it's about ten quid per rattle can, so if it gets damaged you can just peel off that panel and respray it. You can even dissolve it with solvent and blend in a repair. It makes perfect sense if you DIY. For 1500 quid, I would want something more permanent and resilient, and a wrap gives you that while still being removable.

It's rubberised and so to some extent adds a level of impact protection, you can also very easily peal it off when your bored of it.

I've done the chrome grill on my S4, it does look very OEM.

It's a lot easier to get a decent finish than real paint, and if you screw up you just peel it off and have another go.

Good for respraying trim.

That's interesting, I was thinking of doing exactly that since my trim has gone pretty much white in places. Does it deal with the heat radiating off the radiator OK?

will this stuff work on alloys? Ive always wanted to paint mine blue but dont want the hassle of rubbing down and spraying if it ends up looking crap. where can i buy in a can? looks like fun.

Also can i draw large rude objects on friends cars so when they see it they have a panic attack thinking some oik has spraycanned their P and J. Then i can peel it off and laugh.
