Maybe not, but it's the biggest selling in Alfa's history.
A travesty when they later made the sublime 156.

I saw a 33 quite recently and was just thinking how long it was since I had seen one and then he floored it and the thing just disappeared! It surprised me how quick it was, guess they were pretty light compared with modern metal.

Do I remember the educated opinion on these were to go for the 8v as the early boxer 16v had chocolate camshafts?

I nearly bought a P4 from a bloke near Regents Park in the mid 90s. i thought it was lovely, but sh*t myself looking at how much it had cost it to run it over 4 or 5 years. I didn't have much money to spare and it was really, really scary. Nice enough car though.

..would love this just for the knowing nod you would get once a year from a fellow petrolhead.
That's a nod of sympathy from previous 33 owners....

I assume, engine can be tuned to a 150-170bhp?
Was expecting this car to be much cheaper though.
Yes 160 pretty easy - we got 140 out of a lightly tuned 8v 1.7 in our 'sud - the 8V is significantly lighter and OK in production class (bored out 1.5 whistle)

One for the true alfitisti I think - even with a sud track car in my past I'd walk past this. Lovely engines though - and you can get webber manifold conversions to get the true flat four bark biggrin

There are definately some RWD conversions out there - think they may have other gearboxes in them though.

Was that the Ramponi dealership in Lancaster Mews? If it was, I might have been the hapless idiot that bought it instead of you!!! Was around 1995/96 and te car was black? You saved a fortune by not buying it, trust me....and my credit card receipts from the era.

I had an Alfasud 1200 Ti. Not even the leaks, the 99% rust and electrical glitches could contain it's character and zest for the road. That said, a single card 1.3 Alfasud hatch I had was nothing like as good and the glitches and rust began to outweight the lure of the flat four.

I was less than ecstatic about the Arna when that came along though the original 33 styling was not too bad, a bit escort Mk III but IIRC they moved the steering rack thus ruining the steering. I never did like this angular facelift though, it just lacked any appeal and I believe the leap in capacity made the flat four far less instantaneous in response.

The 1.7 16V was nothing like as nice as the small capacity fours. Gruff at low revs and harsh near the redline. The smoothness and appetite for revs was almost completely lost.

Agree with that the 1.5 was a beauty!!

It was organic and loved to rev and with the airbox mod was guttural as well.

Sublime...are you sure...156's are good but not that good...and i owned one that is still in my family today....

The 33 looks nice but you have gotta be very dedicated to spend that much on one......

Sounds about right to me! Don't worry, i lost plenty elsewhere instead.
I seem to remember it had loads spent on gearbox, diff, driveshafts, clutch, etc.....all at 2 or 3 years old.

Not really struck with the 33, but I'd be tempted to a 'sud Ti! Boxer engine always appeals.

IIRC it was the 156 that was the biggest seller.

Sud +ve, engine, looks, handling, relatively cheap (to buy) it's an alfa cool

-ve, Might be rusty.... parts availability + prices, dodgy handbrake, looked down on by classic alfa community.frown

Always weirdly tempted by an arna, a godawful car by all accounts that can be turned into something interesting - 80's retro chick looks meets flat four joy. getmecoat
