it is not a surprise. from the beginning it was making no sense. especially when in parallel they announce to go down market with a 3 series
jaguar was simply too arrogant and selfconfident when they announced the production of this car.
they don't have the image of ferrari or porsche and they have never produced a true sportscar, only some sort of muscle car with big v8 and auto box only able to drift and smoke their tyres.

And the XJ220.
I suspect that Jaguar has had a look into the crystal ball to a time 3 years from now when Evo manages to get together :
918 Spyder
Enzo 2
Veyron 2
McLaren P1
and they have realised that lovely though it is, the CX-75 would be likely to finish 5th in this comparison as enough is now known about the others for Jaguar to know the competition will be very, very strong.

Really? where did you get that information from? one of my friends is a senior engineer at JLR and that is the opposite of what he told me.
Hardly any JLR employees worked on the car vs other consultantsEdited by wemorgan on Tuesday 11th December 12:33

I've still no idea how this car ever got the green light in the first place. The claimed performance and economy was unfeasible, the technology unproven and flawed. Jag don't need a "halo" model supercar, they need a class leading 3 series competitor or similar.
Sure, build a motorshow concept for a couple of million £, write it off against that years marketing budget, get some column inches, but then quietly drop it sharpish!

I got my information direct from the factory at Williams. As an update however, the latter stages of development have apparently to quote "been a nightmare"It was however definatley due for production, albeit scaled back to a run of 75.

Two problems with the turbine CX-75 prototypes as I understand it. You couldn't run the turbines for very long without melting the back end - which would probably have bankrupted the warranty department.
Also, even a multi gazillionniare may wince a bit with a major service on twin turbines. Turbine blades crack microscopically during use (even titanium ones) and would need to be replaced prior to any likelihood of failure. An uncontained blade separation at 20000 rpm is bad enough on an aircraft but doesn't bear thinking about on a road car.
"We need to replace six titanium blades in the hot section due to cracking, sir," each service will go down well I'm sure. Great concept though and hopefully it'll work properly in future.
Plus I would love to know how they planned on sound proofing the thing. We have a micro-turbine here in the lab and no joke you can hear it on the other side of the building when its on. Ear defenders are needed if you want to be in the same room as it.Also, even a multi gazillionniare may wince a bit with a major service on twin turbines. Craig, age is no excuse. I've had a model (exactly the same as in Chim's picture ) since I was in single digits. I then stood and watched the real thing, drive into the car park of the site we were camping at for my first Le Mans Classic. I stood and drooled
I'm gutted that they have binned the C-X75, as others have said, the design is just gorgeous. One of the best for a while. It was one of those "stop and stare" moments for me.

There must still be ongoing trials and testing with the technology, they certainly have an interest since Mr Tata owns a slice of the company involved in the development of the micro turbines...

that was more than 20 years ago...And the XJ220.
brakes, engine, gear boxes, chassis, electronic, ett have evolved quite a bit since then...the CX75 had carbon chassis, dual clutch gearbox, hybrid system, active aero, high capacity engine, things that jaguar has never done before
JLR is simply making a lot of noise to create interest.
only LR is doing quite well commercially. and even them are living on ford investment (evoque, alumnium chassis from XJ for the range, XK chassis for the f-type, engines...)
new engine factory in UK, new factory in saudi arabia, new factory in china, new assembly line in india, new design studio in USA and china, new factory for the CX75, tenths of new cars for the next 4 years, thousands of new employees...it just sounds to good to be true.

Snaelro, you might not know this but the car I'm linking to was the worlds fastest road car when it was released. As for the quote "They have never produced a real sportscar", by my reconing they had a large part in popularising the concept of the sportscar.
