RE: Fiat Panda 4x4 monsters it

We have in the past rescued people stuck in the middle of nowhere - four times in the past three years. All bar one was in either a BMW or Audi. We also rescued someone in another 4x4 who thought his M&S tyres meant they were okay in the snow. He very nearly fatally found out they aren't. See below!
That ^^ is a fking scary picture. I hope the driver had wipe clean seats...Ryvita said:
Feeling ever so smug at having finally (after weeks of trying) landed myself a 4wd Subaru for the winter. Need to remind myself that 4wd does not always automatically make you an invincible winter driving god though. Ice is still ice and a four wheel drift will turn any vehicle into a passenger ride to the hedge.
I ran a WRX last winter in snow and ice with Nokian winter tyres...it monstered everything. It's all in the tyres no matter how many driven wheels you have.ash reynolds said:

Couldn't agree more family hack Honda Stream on vredestein snowtracks pulled away from audi quatro's in the snow. Scary watching people blindly following you in the rear view mirror - no sense at all for the grip under their wheels.Soft spot for Panda 4x4 and tonka toys so like this - didn't someone do a TR7 onto a Range Rover chassis ?
Andrew English in the Daily Telegraph gave it a terrific write-up, describing it as 'the thinking man/woman's SUV and reckoned that it was at its best with the 6-speed Twinair 875cc engine, rather than the 5-speed diesel, describing motorway performance as 'effortless'.......not the sort of comment you would have expected from a car like this!
I would love one as a run-around and winter car on all-weather tyres and show all the Herberts in bling-wheeled X5's how it's done.....

I think the wheels may pertrude a little from under the arch.... bit of an MOT fail!

It's great to be able to choose in the morning. Do you want to end up stuck at the bottom of a 1% gradient in the BMW or just broken down in the Landy? Phib
Love it!
And as with BMW's X5 powered by one of their Le Mans race cars V12's, fair play to FIAT for actually making the car rather than just using some computer rendition.
As for:
Next you'll be telling us that the Bigfoot monster truck doesn't have a real Ford pickup body on it and is not road legal!
Cars like these are made to appeal to our inner selves..... you know....... the 8year that lurks inside all of us that simply thinks: "Now that looks like a fun toy to play with!"

S'funny, we were only talking about modern cars ability, or lack of, in the snow.
30 years ago, when we ran cars with 155x13 tyres, we rarely got stuck. My 70's R Rover could be driven the same in snow as the dry -because it had chunky narrow tyres. Now my P38 with 18's and abs, traction etc is pretty useless. Fitted some better tyres this year, so we shall see.
Even German Uber saloons with some winter NARROW tyres should be ok. Look at the WRC cars when they are driving in snow - really narrow tyres, albeit studded.

Usually in the snow the BMW just slides further and further down the drive until I finally tow it back up with the defender !!!Actually the defender is pretty much 100% reliable .... the range rover and sport were two different cases in point .. hence back to a defender again

Back in the early 90's when I had my 309 GTi and it snowed for a couple of days, I had enormous difficulty going to work one morning. This was just pulling out from the kerb in the outback wildereness of Hounslow...! It was severely cambered and the snow had turned to ice, but those 185's just could not get any purchase.30 years ago, when we ran cars with 155x13 tyres, we rarely got stuck. The Fiat Panda 4x4 is one of those cars that I think every true petrolhead really wants. The problem is we also want lots of other cars too and lots of the other cars are cheaper than a new Fiat.
Might get around to it some day and justify it as a car for the 1 week a year where we might get snow.
