I can't think of many modern racing cars that aren't pretty damned ugly, to be honest.
There are a number of LMP1 cars in my post on the previous page. Obviously beauty is in the eye of the beholder and all that, but proportionally these things are a damn sight better. It's what I was hoping for from Radical TBH.

And the fact most racing cars these days are ugly is certainly nothing to do with chasing outright speed and the most efficient aero; it's because governing bodies keep playing with regulations. See the fk-off big boards on the back of Le Mans prototypes that were a knee-jerk reaction to cars getting airborne. They make the cars a lot uglier, but serve no purpose in terms of speed or handling. Or the broken noses on current F1 cars, again introduced by regulations and engineers attempting to find the most effective way round the rules.

We'll have to agree to differ there.

For me, racing cars stopped being beautiful in the 60s when they realised that down-force was useful. The human eye (at least my eye) is tuned to see aerodynamic efficiency as beautiful because so many things in nature are shaped around it; as soon as you start adding "unnatural" shapes like aerofoils and artificially wide floors to cars, it ruins them, IMO.

For me, this is just a natural extension of that. It's no more ugly than the current crop of F1 or LMP cars.

I think the only issue is the roofline is a touch high. If it were only a few inches lower the whole balance car would look better. Not sure if that is possible, but if it is Radical should get right on it.

Again though, there's a big difference between beautiful, purposeful or even visually pleasing. I agree that most racing cars aren't beautiful: very few modern cars are full stop, but that doesn't mean they can't have an attractive or visually appealing design.

The reason I dislike this thing is because it's so close to an LMP car, but with added height, shortened length, and a narrower stance, it just makes it look daft. If the roof could just be lower, it would look a lot better.

But yes, it will be a proper weapon. TBH, it's the same for any other vehicle I'd buy. A sportsbike is pretty much designed entirely for speed and fun, but I wouldn't buy one of those I considered to be ugly either.

Still, I'm sure if you sticker it up, it could look reasonably cool from most angles and in the flesh.

Me neither, but I can entirely understand why enough people would to make it a profitable enterprise.

Messrs Colin Chapman, Frank Costin and Malcom Sayer designed aerodynamic yet good looking race cars. Opps, forgot Len Bailey !!

The earliest attempts at down-force from Lotus looked comically bad. hehe

Oh I'm not disputing that; look how many people have bought the Porsche Cayenne, that's hideous!

I'm just highlighting the fact that there's a good reason many people won't, and the fact that aesthetics matter to lots of people isn't really that surprising. Even in a track car, it's still important.

Can someone tell me what was wrong with the hayabusa engine? Why the move away.

Standard 200 hp

Turbocharged, reliable up to 5-600 hp

Graft it as a v8 400 hp out of 2.6

V8 turbo you could have lightweight engine with over 1000 hp
For this car they are using the latest 3.0L V8, which should be be at least road legal in this country since the Atom V8 uses a very similar engine.

For people who say this car is a 'mini' Ultima, it's actually slightly longer and wider than the GTR. It's just the CAD rendering makes the car look narrow and tall somehow. I personally think it's a mistake small car manufactures jump to full size prototype from initial sketches and CAD models without go through the good old clay modelling stage. That's one of the reason most of the time those cars just look like kit cars even though there are huge amount of time and money spend on them. You just can not design a production car without a full size clay model (you can certainly do without a CAD model though). Even the most advanced automotive design studios nowadays still make full size clay model between their CAD model and prototype stages.

Didn't the Hayabusa derived engine require quite frequent rebuilds? Its not exactly in a relaxed state of tune...

Great specs and exciting car, no doubt but I'm firmly in the ugly camp.

It is more Daytona Prototype than Group C tribute, as others have said, and that is not a good thing.

It has been done better by Ultima, Lynx (http://www.imcdb.org/vehicle.php?id=208763) etc. on a much smaller budget.

I think Radical released some drawings a few years back for this coupe, when it was just pie in the sky and that car was very attractive.

It also seems like a lot of money compared to the Ultima. I am sure it will be quicker on the track but the Ultima at 9/10ths is probably more than 99% of us can handle!

The bonkers V8 thingy had to be rebuilt every 40 hours for the 'low spec' one or 30 for the high spec. Ok for a race engine, not so much for a road car. It also had fairly restrictive running requirements (for a road engine...); http://www.radicalperformanceengines.com/assets/up...

Although I seem to recall Mellor's bird looked like Freddie Mercury?

Radical have got it spot on!
This IS a race car for the road and not a pussy mobile for poseur numptys.
I wish these pussyfied whiners would just sod off and buy your beloved BMW/Audi/who cares WTF it is, crappy Eurobox. Then your 'choice' is easy, just get 'the' one that suits your 'Lifestyle choices' and conveys your 'importance'.
You can get your teeth whitened again and another fake tan with the savings.
Could you try and fit the word "pussy" in there a bit more?

A hardcore track car and being fking ugly aren't mutually exclusive. You're happy to drive round in a car that looks like a pig's arse, good for you. It doesn't mean everybody else is. What other people think of it doesn't come into the equation, I wouldn't want an ugly car because of what *I* think about it.

I accept your 'Radical Pussy' challenge laugh, biglaugh

First of all, I am genuinely grateful and applaud Radical.
BRAVO and thank you for producing a genuine sports car.
Thankfully for the few genuine car lovers left there are still brave pioneers like Radical who are immune to this effeminacy infection, genetically safeguarded from contracting fully blown
'I'm a pussy, suppress my manlyness' syndrome.

These heroes provide relief by offering up an extremely RARE machine in a sea of utter dross,
the full fat, hairy chested, genuine sports car!
This really is a mans sports car designed for proper men who still have balls, are not ashamed of them and want mans toys.

That will be non-pussys to you.

The way I see it,

Pussys are just scared of a MANS car because the pussy doesnt have the skills but desires the appreciation.
Thats the only reason I can see why pussys consistently rely upon their learned pussy responses and idiotic pussy 'arguments'.
They use these to mask the feelings of fear. Pussys.

"What about he air-con" is a staple.
"Have you seen the cheap plastic" is a cracker.
"I wouldnt want an ugly car" is another.

This machine is a drivers car.
The looks and equipment are governed by FUNCTION before form, look up what that means as you obviously do not get it.

(900kg downforce is DEFINITELY a clue to all but a moron and a pussy)

The design is not arrived at like it is at BMW Mini, simply chosen just because it matches 10 different pussy styles of pussy handbag.
Nor is it chosen because it matches 20 fashionable pussy hairstyles!
There are plenty of other pussy cars designed for pussys from which a pussy can choose from.

I bet you can even get them all in your favourite spray tan orangey-brown or bleached tooth white.
Pfffft,,,

Thankfully with this car the needs of the pussy have been completely ignored.
WHY?
Because that sh*ts for fuc**ng pussys!
