RE: You Know You Want To: Alpina B9 3.5
Discussion
Am most surprised!!!!!! Matt Bird------NOT doing ANY research. The First six cylinder B,s were the 1978 B 7 Turbo,s--300PS-343lb Torque--and they Were E-12.s--and ALL the proper serious ones ARE Only LHD--as PPPPPP,s photo also shows, they uprated to a E12 B7S-- 330ps after a few years.
1984 saw the E28,s come in with a far better spec, and were a much better car to drive------when one fitted 17" Rims and Slicks for the "Better Driving with BMW" driver training courses on the Nordschleife, for the "Perfection" lap in the early 80.s.
Alpina--Thanks to BBB-- Burkard Boviensiepen Buchloe.

I like the interiors too of those cars>>
They should never have sold them without the custom interior is you ask me. Makes the whole thing feel even more special.For the writer;
Even I knew about Alpina's history, and I'm not someone who's obsessive about such things.
Took me 2 seconds to get to here;
'ALPINA – MOTOR RACING TRADITION – 1968 – 1987 - 2009 - 2011
1968 - Beginning of a success story
Motor racing is very much part of the ALPINA history....'

Nice car, spotted it yesterday and was surprised it wasn't up with 4Star or someone at twice the price.. My mum had one as her daily for a while in the 80s, loved it.
It was at 4 star until recently.http://www.4starclassics.com/Alpina-B9-For-Sale/

Fantastic looking cars. Shame alpina are making diesels now and sullying their good name.
Every time I spot an alpina splitter now its attached to a tarted up 320d.
If they didn't make the D3 they probably wouldn't exist selling the few petrol versions they do.Every time I spot an alpina splitter now its attached to a tarted up 320d.
And the D3 is a fine car, as dervs go.

Editorial has gone to pot recently on PH. First there was the article comparing a 100k Merc to a Tiv and now this nonsense about aftermarket tuners with no motorsport heritage...
Have a word someone before the standars drop any further.
Getting to be as bad as the Telegraph on line......Have a word someone before the standars drop any further.

Saying "good for a derv" is like saying "the world's best rapist", or something.
Really?What I meant was they do a great job on what is 'just' a diesel engined car.
And again like I said, if they didn't make the D3/D5 there would most likely be no Alpina for much longer as we know it.

Hi guys, just to clarify a couple of things:
- I was aware of Alpina's motorsport history before becoming a fully-fledged company later in the 1970s. What I meant was that, where for example the E30 M3 was built for homolagation purposes, nothing bulit by Alpina was specifically for motorsport from the 80s onwards. That is until recently when Alpina have been racing and building the B6 GT3. Sorry if this didn't come across clearly enough.
- Alpina should have been recognised as a manufacturer and not a tuner; apologies for the mistake.
- I am always thorough with my work, especially as PH is such a discerning audience. I work with information I believe to be correct and never intend to produce anything wrong. Without wishing to make lame excuses, I'm still fairly new to writing as a career and simply lack the experience of older hacks; I'm doing everything possible to improve my skills to please bear with me for a bit longer. Of course, constructive criticism is always welcome!
Cheers,
Matt

it is both...a lot of cars were build up afterwards also because of extra tax on them, but in that case they were not 'real' Alpina's although they had most goodies on them, they stayed BMW but with Alpina tuning.
others were 'real' Alpina's those are worth more.
Just as Hartge, although they make way and way less complete cars then Alpina, they (Hartge) are also both a manufacturer and a tuner, most are still BMW with Hartge tuning so its a BMW ;-)
but some are 'real' Hartge's and those have also a own Hartge chassis-number, those are rare, like mine ;-)
