I think one of the reasons you don't see more WRX STi's on the road is the fact that they no longer sell them in WR Blue in the UK! What sort of fool thought that was a good idea??

Did someone say that they weren't very well built on this thread? They are superbly built.

When I bought mine I thought that it the looks were going to be a personal thing.. but women absolutely love it. I once returned to my car in a carpark and a girl, her mother and her grandmother were admiring it!

It also has huge road presence, and boy is it fast!

By "women" you mean those three, right? Not all of womankind?

My missus hates the look of the thing.

Indeed!

I intend to buy that model at some point, but being young with a driving conviction means it is nothing but a distant hope at the moment!

They are not bad tbh, probably the best looking out of the newage Impreza's but they still ain't no 22b I'm afraid. They should have carried on making the 2 door versions IMO

Audi offers plenty of quattros and even Merc can kit you out with a AWD model if you want to, so no worries about your ski holidays in France or whatever.

Only other 4x4 7 seat options are R class GL Disco XC90 and Q7.

R class Yuck..
GL is the size of a bus.
Disco you need a hunting coat and shotgun.
XC90 you need a Pipe and slippers.
Q7 is a pig to drive "and £400 to change a headlight bulb!"
Best of a bad bunch is the X5 IMO ....

Other options .. people carriers .. FFS I'd need to wear a disguise.

A VW caravel I'm no bleedin hippy.

So the choice is pretty limited..

If you like cars the nearest one with 7 seats to a car is an X5 ...

Unless you have another option for me ???

Stretch Impreza anyone ???
Why do you need 7 seats? Do you actually haul 6 ppl + yourself? For some reason couples in UK think they need 7 seater as soon as they have 1 child...
That aside, you discarded 5 cars, which is down to personal preference. You missed Range Rover as well.

As for an option for you - an MPV. LOADS of those on the market and I bet most (or even all) of them more practical than X5. MPV are for ferrying people around. There are some 7 seater estates also if memory serves me correct.

You seem to have an image problem. I can't help you with that. If you buy stuff because of the badge, go ahead, good riddance. You've discarded a lot of good cars cause they don't have 'prestige' or 'heritage' or whatever else.

If you really think you need AWD cause its snowy, think again. I come from a country where there are real winters, not this mild UK stuff with barely an inch of snow for 5 days a year, and I've commuted for years in a FWD car with only ABS to help me without any problems.
Heck in UK these days I have RWD car with sport 255 rubber at the back and it works...

I read a bit of this thread. It makes me realise that people are far too concerned with how others perceive them based on their mode of transport. If someone 'thinks' I look a chav in my 15 year old Honda as I drive past, I couldn't care less. I regret not owning an Evo 6 or an Impreza STI, especially as I'll always remember watching the WRC with McRae, Sainz and Mak piloting their cars through Kielder..

Folks will always disagree on others choice of car and try to justify why their car is the best thing on four wheels. That's the way it is. I buy cars based on the way they make me feel, not how the interiors feel. But as has been said before, everyone is different.

Regrets by definition are missed opportunities that are no longer available. On the other hand, it's entirely possible to own an Evo 6 or Impreza STI today.

yes

Too true. Probably the best chance you'll get to pick up a prime example of either - after they were universally popular and before the good ones pick up modern classic status, as I'm sure the P1s and FQs will do.

What b******s! As much as it hurts me to say this I guess there is some truth in this article, I certainly havent brought one because of high insurance prices and running costs. I suppose in the current economic climate something like this was inevitable as people are going for more economical cars. The amount of guys I know who have sold performance cars and brought more economical cars in the last year has increased massively. People compare these to your Audi's and BMW's, Im sure you could pick up a nice Impreza Sti for around 4 grand that would leave most fast BMW's and Audis standing so you cant really compare in terms of performance and bang for buck!

Perhaps a damn good thing, if the quality of other Imprezas is similar to that of my 2nd normally-aspirated Impreza (still less than 6 years old). I've spent more than £3.5k on servicing/repairs in the last year alone. Not even a light bulb went wrong on my first one.

Very sad.
Here's our Spec-C which I guess we'll hold on to even tighter now.

Amazing car, sensory overload. A very different animal from a UK car. Adrenaline rush on wheels.

Enjoyed it whilst I had it but can't say it has been missed, particularly. Just a little blunt and lacking in feel unless you were going very fast indeed.

£3.5k on servicing/repairs on an N/A Impreza?????

What is the split on repair to servicing?

I was just saying to a friend that the day of the performance car is numbered and it wont be too long before they start disappearing. Then as if by coincidence this crops up. End of an era, end of a legend and a sign of things to come.

wonder if this will increase insurance premiums still further and kill off any hope of me ever owning one.

Think i may take up golf instead.

I'll add a contentious one.

My wifes 2010 Subaru 2.5 WRX-S. From memory 260BHP, 0-60 5.9 seconds, Prodrive Performance Pack.

Great car - bought for £19995 brand new with 3 years free servicing.

Gone now, replaced by a z4 BMW
