I'm only surprised that it took this long. Expect to see most affordable performance cars with high CO2 emissions going the same way. I'm amazed that you can still buy a 370Z in the EU.

Erm totally agree! The 135i is cerfuddled by half an inch of snow and completely unusable!! I love the winter when you see a queue of bmw's at the bottom of a snowy hill abandoned, oh how it warms my insides!!
And most decent imprezas hit 0-60 in 4.5 seconds, i think that jumps all over the 5.3 seconds of the 135i, am i right?!!

all about the 0-60 isn't it. Sit in the drivers seat of the last wrx sti then sit in the drivers seat of the new m135i........ then tell me that the .8 seconds to 60 is still worth it. You may want to look at ingear times, you know real world driving that we all do everyday, oh and i won;t ask you to look at the difference in MPG with the 135i comfortably attaining mid 30's and 40 on the run.

Oh and if you are also nailing a car based on its ability for those 2 days a year when it snows, you should be driving a landrover surely. You can get winter tyres for your BMW which will let you go pretty much anywhere and if you don;t want to spend 1500 quid on a second set of wheels and tyres for winter just buy an old WRX / 2000 turbo impreza for the same 1500 quid for the days you can;t use your more competent 135i.

Oh and one last thing on subject of getting facts right dumb dumb, 0-62 ( not 60) for the m135i is 4.9 in auto ( seeing as you love those stats) so pretty much same as your beleoved scooby.

Im an Impreza fan, on my 3rd one now. I think the decline started when they took out the 2.5 litre engine in the UK. A weak engine and put it into the top rate road tax bracket.

I personally like the look of the hatch. Would have bought one but 2.5 engine problems put me off.
Might look for a JDM one in the near future which still have the 2.0 engines.

If the fuel prices were cheaper I'd probably be driving round in one. Shame really. The death of an icon.

High CO2 cars have all but disappeared already, everyone except Subaru and Mitsubishi have invested in getting their emissions down. The 370z needs turbos like the old cars, lower emissions + more POWAAAR. Or a new 200sx.

The WRX STi made 243 carbons
The Focus ST makes 169 carbons
The top-spec Mini Countryman (another relatively powerful AWD car) makes just 173 carbons. That results in much cheaper tax.

i would say the declien really started whe they pulled out of WRC. lets be honest thats where they built their image from and then they dumped it like a hot potatoe when money worrys started.

Also the Boxer engine is lovely but Subaru failed to make it more viable at the pumps, if it meant losing the boxer engine and going for a regular turbo inline. Had they done that they would have held on to the customers. Oh and lets not forget the lack o fany imagination on the interior. Subaru failed to move with the times on the impreza and failed to keep up with the competition. Even Kia managed to make half descent interiors.

Subaru brought this on themselves which is a shame as its less choice for us. Subaru have been good in the past listening to criticism when they hurried the bugeye out of production due to panning of its face, when they brought back the saloon etc, but this time they dropped the ball.

In a sense, it's a sad, sad day that the Impreza is finally gone. But in reality, it died a long time ago.

Hopefully any current scooby owners will carefully study the progress to classic values of cars such as the Cossies and Deltas of the late 80's early 90's. I.E. DO NOT MODIFY YOUR CAR!!! Keep it immaculate and absolutely factory std, and in a few years it will be an appreciating asset ;-)

Err.. I think you refer to the old shape 135i. The M135i does 0-62 (NOT 60) in 5.1 in manual or 4.9 auto. Despite 2wd...

It's a pretty useless way of comparing performance anyway.

Totally agree that it's a very sad day though. It doesn't make the M135i a lesser car though, even on winter tyres...

Sad but inevitable, people cannot afford to run them with fuel and tax as it is.

I had an early classic and it was the bees knees when it first came out. The fuel consumption was bad enough when fuel was at 80p a litre let alone 135p a litre! I run a much thirstier car now but it has performance to match but the modern impreza isn't even quick enough to justify it's thirst for fuel!

Or you could, you know, just use and enjoy your car in the way you prefer, rather than worry about some potential future boom in prices for a mass-produced and fairly common vehicle.

not a fan of these particularly but it's a pretty sorry state for british performance car fans.

BMW M135i is 5.1 secs to 60mph, WRX STI 5.2. Okay not much faster, but faster.
But not in snow, no.

For what, 2 weeks every year and paying £££'s to run it unused for the remaining 50 weeks.
Plus, having the BMW in snow is an excuse to stay in bed smile

A very very sad state of affairs indeed frown

However I can't say I would defend Subarus recent attempts at reinventing the Impreza against any criticism. I have always been a massive fan of Subarus but when they switched to the fat ugly hatch, of which they made a fat ugly saloon version later to try and salvage things, I just lost all interest.

I still lust after many of their older cars though such as an MY06 Spec C or an RB320 or RB5...... oh yes!

I would also like to point out I think the Evo X is a hideous looking bit of kit.
agree about evo

I got one off those fat ugly saloons .... It's ok, great to drive comfy refined still stands out from bm's etc. but compared to my old rb320 no where near as much fun (which I had kept the RB) 4.4 secs 0 to 62 and it did it and it felt like it.

Agree This is why it went wrong maybe not the engine bit (you can tell its a scoob from a mile away I love that burble)..But wish they could have stayed in rallying,, and interiors def put loads of people off

Sad in theory, but honestly when was the last time you saw the latest Impreza on the road, in hot form or not. Subaru just isn't a brand most people, apart from enthusiasts, consider for a new car.

that's a STUPID excuse. now that they dont have a 276hp muzzle to conform with, they can EASILY go mental with power, yet they keep horsepower at 300. it had 276hp when the first wrx sti came out, and 20 years on its gone up to 300. cmon subaru, chop chop, keep up. just shove a direct injection flat 6 from the legacy into it, stick a turbo charger, up the boost to 500hp levels (who cares about turbo lag), keep the price in the £30k's and your laughing. that is kinda what made the original WRX STI a hit. 276hp (almost m5 levels at the time) and it weighed WAY less. if someone offered a 4 door saloon with m5 beating power and performance for BMW M135i money, it will sell like hot cakes. subaru need to learn from the americans, and what they did with the corvette z06. they got a below average car, gave it lots of power and kept it cheap. its not even hard ?

The hatch is simply too ugly. Ungainly might be a better word.
Still very quick cars. They'll be around the clubman rally scene for a long long time yet as, evo excepted, nothing else gives the same performance per £ in the woods.
