Agreed. Personally I think they should focus on getting people into the dealers and into the cars. They did a thing a while back in the city, parked a few Evoras up and grabbed people as they came passed, almost strong arming the into sitting in the thing and having a look. Even as someone who knows a fair bit about cars, I was surprised by the quality of the Evora and how nicely put together it was. The Evora's not perfect but it's still got a huge amount going for it, and it's certainly a good enough car to warrant the modest sales that it would need to be considered a success.
Next issue is getting them to part with the cash. With a 911 or an R8 you know that there's some resale value there. £60k on a car that may not be around in 6 months to see the warranty out is a bit hard to swallow. How about some decent level finance deals with a solid guaranteed future value to get people in the mood?
Evora aside, they seem to be making a complete Horlicks of the Elise these days with entry starting at the thick end of £30000. For a car that's already paid its tooling and designs off many times over its too much. Ramp up production of a basic model with £30 a year road tax and 45mpg. Put it up at £20,000 with some decent finance plans and Hoover up sales from people young enough not to care that there a complete arse to get in
It's the price, it always comes back to the price. They just aren't a strong enough brand at the moment to be trying to charge the amount they are for their cars.
Unfortunately they are in a catch 22 situation, they aren't selling enough cars to be able to offer decent discounts\finance or market the cars properly but without doing that, they won't sell enough cars. They really need an injection of cash desperately or I can't seem them being around for much longer unfortunately. Weren't Proton going to chuck a few million there way, I'm sure I read that somewhere?

At the price tag they sell the car at, there going up against competitors that have bespoke engines etc, always a tough sell with a camry V6 in the back, they either needed to be cheaper and faster than the competion like in the days of the turbo Esprit or offer a better engine if they want to go head to head, a ford V8 for example would set it apart from 6 cylinder rivals
I am thinking a number of things here:
1) Many Evoras out there already have most of the options on this new Evora. Mine has the lot except the black bits, which I quite fancy to freshen it up.
2) It's not like they have really put the price up by £5000, if anything the cost of the base vehicle has effectively gone down now that the new price includes £15000 of options.
3) Many people on here are losing track of the fact that cars nowadays cost big money...many minis are £20k plus, Corsas are pushing high teens specced up. It's easily possible to spec an Insignia or any Vauxhall or Ford saloon up to £30k with all the options. New 4x4's whether Evoque, Discovery, Lexus, Audi or VW are £40-50k new, let's not even mention RR at £90k. In this context, given what the Evora is and it's exotic looks, combined with rarity, £50K new, or high £30'sK at one year old and £500 a month is phenomenal value. People on here that talk of Lotus needing to knock out sports cars or super cars for £20-£30k need to get real....that's almost super mini money these days!

Yup, even if that is cheaper compared to when they started in 96, they are not seen as the giant killers any more. Perhaps they also have to look at different materials (not GRP), at least for something like "bumpers". I have to find a garage for rent first (not easy here) before being able to buy one. Front clam would not last a week, limited parking space, lots of SUVs and people not caring what they reverse into... Makes it pretty impractical...

Evora missed its mark by miles. If it had looked like the Esprit (either old one or new one) it would have stood a chance.
4) The Porsche Cayman. Cheaper, better-looking, better-built, sold and supported by a dealer near you, and better at snapping knicker-elastic.
Also known as the gayman, or the coxter. Looks like a frog. Dealer is on the same road as the Lotus one in Leeds. Every bird I know hates Porsches and thinks they are driven by knobs. Everyone loves the Lotus though...admittedly primarily because they have no idea what it is...unlike the Porsche...everyone knows what they are as you see a dozen every day = common. You may have me on better built though.

Looks are subjective but you must have turd in your eye if you think the current Cayman looks better than an Evora. I also dont recall the Evora having well known & documented possible major engine reliability problems like the majority of the Porsche range. Thirdly the only knicker elastic you will be snapping in a Cayman is your boyfriends Mankini - and this is coming from an ex mx5 owner......Evora missed its mark by miles. I dont agree with the comments that the Evora is too expensive but unfortunately the brand image is now associated with £30k sportscars that are fantastic to drive but are only 85% built (going off the ownership experience of my VX220) - This is hard to get away from.
In my eye its a definite Cayman beater (and I really like Caymans) but then it should be as it costs 10k more. Sadly it cant compete with the 911 because of the powertrain and practicality but it comes very close.

Got to agree with this. I work in Leeds and drive past JCT 600 Porsche and Lotus everyday - My collegues at work dislike Porsches main reasoning being they are aesthetically very bland. Guys if want to buy a Porsche just do it, go buy a soap bar. But I paid my money and have an Evora the build and switch gear is not as bad as being made out, nothing has fallen off or broken, and you know what.......the drive is sublime, everything the press wrote is true it is a dream, an it just gets better the more miles I put on it, so what up with you lot..........no imagination..........no Soul.........no passion
