This is going to come across as shallow but having seen the current range (there's an Infinity dealer just across the road from were I work), I have yet to meet an Infinity that looks remotely attractive. Every model seems to have either weirdly melted looks or just bland.

Lets face it BMW, Mercedes, Audi and Jaguar have there ups and downs but between the three marques they still make a fair few attractive motors. Infinity do not.

For me this would be a fairly big selling point.
I rather like the Infiniti FX. There's a Renault/Saab dealer local to me that's has had 2 or 3 nearly new FXs for sale over the last few months and they're always parked right on the front corner of the lot in the most visible spot.

They're eye-catching, different, and interesting to look at. Not my usual cup of tea at all but I find myself rather keen on them, although I could see why some people don't agree.

The Ethera certainly stands out styling wise over the other premium compacts such as the A3 and 1 series

Why not just use the VQ38DETT engine from the GTR? I'm sure that would encourage sales too.

Only if you used the chassis and bodywork too.

I think using a V6 when rivals are V8 powered is not a great idea, i'm sure i'm not alone in prefering more, rather than less cylinders

I love my fast saloons - I love my XFR and I had a C63 and a C55 before that. This has no interest for me - as others have said, this will go down well in the US but nowhere else...

yes The US, in particular, seems to have far more tendency to buy cars based on how good they are rather than the badge on the nose.
So they'll still not sell many then?

I rented a G37S for 2 weeks in the States. It was a nice car - but at the time I'd also just sold an E92 335i which is the BMW equivilent and the Infinity was noticeably lacking in numerous areas. It felt like a Nissan inside - nothing about the interior felt like I was sitting in a BMW or Audi competitor. The engine was great, it was quick, too, but it felt like a cheap Japanese car and when you are trying to compete with Mercedes, BMW and Audi that simply isn't good enough.

Nobody mentioning UK production. That's a good think isn't it!
The Etherea looks good even if the name is a bit iffy. Keep seeing urethra!

Infiniti FX are stunning cars. Best handling SUV on the market. I much prefer it over X5 or Cayenne. I bought the last of the 1st series FX with 4.5 V8 as my winter car. Love it!

Well, it may not appeal to the thousands who buy Mercs/BMWs/Audis because of the badge on the nose, but anyone who actually gets in one and drives it will be impressed. I did. A G convertible. Well built, fast and lots of toys for less money that an equivalent German. And if you want people to shift out your way get an FX!

It may turn out to be the best engineered, best handling, fastest, most economic executive saloon in the history of motoring - but whilst it carries Nissan heritage and looks so ugly it is never going to be the machine of choice in the UK.

I did, and I wasn't. If it was about £10k cheaper and a premium Mondeo alternative I would have been but the interior was so laughably low rent it was difficult to take it seriously.

Fun to drive, sure.

Rented one of those FX SUV thingamyjigs in the States.
Good car, good engine, comfortable.
Subsequently rented Merc and Caddy SUV's in same price bracket, all rubbish.
