RE: SOTW: Citroen Saxo VTR
Discussion
Our lass had one years ago. Bad driving position and pedal box. But still a canny car. Did over a 120000 trouble free miles. Always good on juice and managed to get almost 60mpg on a run to castle combe, Alton towers then Blackpool.
Sold it to a boy racer who had it weeks who then sold it straight on to another girl racer who wrapped it. Our lass was gutted.

Yet another hot hatch? - Not much variety on SOTW at the moment.
I'm sure its a great car, if you like this kind of thing.
Of the last 10, only 5 have been hatchbacks... plus they're the most fun you can have for this kinda money imo!I'm sure its a great car, if you like this kind of thing.
Had one but the one I bought was an absolute shed had some horrible rot on the rear bumper crossmember it was so bad my mechanic brother warned me not to tow anything!
Very fun handling pedals took some getting used to never really went wrong in my short ownership.
I'd own another although I will be taking my brother to look with me.
I've seen clean looking mk1 vtr's for 500-600!

I've owned 2 Saxos, a 1.1 and a lightly tweaked VTR, fantastic cars. Whilst I'm sure there's a lot of poor examples out there, i never found the stories about them being unreliable to be true. Did 60k in the little 1.1, and 10k in the VTR that was on 98k when i bought it, both were driven spiritedly and never missed a beat. I'd love another as a track car if i had the money!
As my user name probably gives away, I'm a fan.
I've had two VTR's one bog standard and the other lightly tweaked. Both were an absolute riot to drive. I learned more about controlling a FWD car driving those Saxo's than any other car could have taught me.
Understeer is easily manage with the throttle meaning momentum is always kept. I would have another tomorrow. In fact anyone want to but my dull Audi Estate?!

Loved my Mk1 (99) VTR and 2002 VTS. VTR was nothing but problems, but always mananged to limp to my desired destination. In fairness I didn't exactly treat her well. Never got a full tank. Fuel light was constantly on, even after putting a fiver in (colledge days). Despite its flaws, I loved it and have no regrets buying it. Then, one hot day in my Rev1 MR2 T-bar, I came across this little one...I just had to have it...
I've Owned it three times now, and its still a great little car. Although, I did take it in part exchange this time. Still love driving it though!

Oh dear, the rear suspension's collapsed? Oh, wait, it's only a pair of Lexus lights away from full chav spec. Having the arse dragging around like that ruins the handling, never mind being dangerously close to bottoming out!We may have a entrant for the badly modified cars thread

Wouldn't be seen dead in one, minus the fact that my feet are to big, the image that goes with them is shocking. There are 3 Saxo's my way (not noticed if they are VTR's or S's) but there all on the floor and all of the young lads driving them have the back rests wound so far back its like they think their on a lazy boy and you can just see there spotty little heads popping up past the door sill.
I don't doubt there fun but ive seen far too many of them backwards up a tree because they wind the back down so far and fit solid dampers and so completely ruin the handling because it induces extreme lift off.
Just to add, they all drive like c**ts.

I call bks on this statement. From what I remember with my Saxo, the seat backs worked on a spring type lever, as opposed to a windy up wheel mechanism. So it could only be put back a to a certain angle, which was still very upright. I would say it might have only been mine, but I've been in more than one and they were all the same.
