Says auto on the spec list, deffo looks like a manual from the interior pics though!?
zoom in and you'll see the manual gate 'map' on the top of the gear lever, it's a manual!

I've looked at that - love the seat colour, nearest to linen I've seen. Not too sure about the dash/seat combo. Sorely tempted at that price but decided that it lacked a few (very cheap when new) options that I wanted and not a facelift car. A bit leggy too. But I'm sure if it checks out its fantastic value for money.

almost unbelievable, so much car at such prices.
It was on ebay at £20,444 so a little movement is probably possible on that price too smile

I can live without it being an S.

As much as I'd love the light colour leather. Practical reasons (and children!) mean that I'd go for one with black leather instead.

What are we treating as the options to have on these cars? I actively don't want one with nav.

Oops. It was a similar spec, colour and mileage IIRC. Interior may have been different though, come to think of it.

I'm a wimp so want heated seats, rear parking sensors and cruise. The latter you can retro fit.
Daft thing is that these were £300 options when new on a £85000 car so you might as well tick the box!
Re nav - I think (and I stand to be corrected) that pcm 1 on the older cars is much easier to update than the newer pcm2. Equally it seems popular to remove the whole unit and replace it with something newer anyway.

Correct. PCM2 indicates that the car has the MOST bus fibre-optic system, which makes life less easy for aftermarket replacement. It can be done and it's not outrageously difficult but it's a faff. The PCM1 system is conventional (wires and wiggly amps) so replacing that is more plug-and-play. Hence the Alpine S600R in mine.

Out of interest, the facelift cars are not all MOST. The changeover happened in 2004. My car is post-facelift (2002), non-MOST.

The 996 has never been a desirable car. Still, it's a lot of bang for your bucks, if your into that kind of thing.
What total rubbish! Look how many 996s were sold for big money brand new. Look how many turbos they sold and at almost 100k...

How did they do that if they were not desirable?

Did they blackmail people into buying them?

You think a 996 GT2 or 996 GT3RS aren't desirable?
Totally agree, 996 Turbo's were seriously hard cars to get hold of, I waited about 11 months until I picked my new Seal Grey one up back in 2001. Up until that point I hadn't even test driven the car, after coming from a 996 C2 this was a big step up and mind scrambling quick, no wonder it cost 3.5k a year to insure!!. I think people say these are clinical because they are so usable but for me that's what makes these so special.. I'm almost tempted to buy another one at these silly prices!!

Anyone know if my old one is still around reg no LX51 KKO ??

That's the first really class looking interior I've seen on a 996!

Great car for the money.

Feeling the need to reply to some of the posts on here. I've just recently bought a 996 turbo had a ppi done on it and majority of things were fine, my car was very well looked after , full history and maintenance! I've just spent £500 pound for new track rods, suspension arms and full suspension geometry set up. It's now transformed from a really nice drivers car to a super drivers car. It has quite a few optional extras and has a remap to 480bhp. The performance is insane and I'd love to see a supra keep up with my car there are very few cars that can keep pace with it due to the performance and fantastic handling, it grips & grips and grips if you keep your foot in. The chassis is amazing, you tube 996 turbo Jdm super cars and you will see these machines beating lancer evo 7, Ferrari 360 Modena,Honda nsx & Nissan gtr v spec & that's a stock car. The metzger engine is a race bred engine from the gt1 race car and can take insane mods up to a reported 1500 bhp. My previous cars have been cosworth rs 500, supra auto 400 bhp. Caterham lightweight, scoobydoo & lotus exige
I've always dreamed of having a porsche turbo and am just so glad i took the plunge and bought one, easily the best car I've owned so far

I have had my 996 turbo (manual ) for just over 2 years and it has surpassed my expectations in performance and pleasure to own. If you ever get the chance to own one of these cars don’t let it pass by, you won’t be disappointed

Best car I’ve ever owned ( out of 37). Remarkably cheap to run. They’ve doubled since this article was written.
