Koenigsegg. The unloved super car?

Same car made uglier and tackier over several years.
First ones dogged by unreliability, current ones probably still dogged by reputation of earlier cars.
Tonnes of claims to be the fastest car in the world but only once have they proved it. They also sound st.
Never been a fan though I wish I was.
Fast forward to 18:20, then say they sound st. Is a cross-plane crank V8 not tinny enough for ya? First ones dogged by unreliability, current ones probably still dogged by reputation of earlier cars.

I love the Koenigsegg shape, the wraparound glass just makes them look like Le Mans racers. I'm not that keen on the interiors though. The engineering is great but I agree that using Ford V8s might turn people off. The ultimate reason that they don't fly off the shelves is the same for Nobles M600 and the Gumpert Apollo; in these segment, it's mostly about bragging rights. Having the new Lamborghini means something to a lot of people, having the new Koenigsegg means you are fabulously rich, but only once you've explained how much it's worth, and it will never have the cachet of a classic supercar brand.
I have been very vocal in my criticism that Koenigsegg have never done enough to blow their own trumpet. Even though the Agera has been out for over a year I have yet to see a decent video or magazine review that actual shows what the car is like to live with, i.e. to drive on the road. This video again lacks any road driving but at least Jethro Bovington does a lot more than we have seen before with car actually being seen to go around a corner or two. And in conclusion he seems to be impressed.
By the way the new Egg's no longer use the Ford Block, it is now a custom item but is still cast in the UK
Does it compare to say the Huryra? To be honest I suspect that a customer is unlikely to choose between the two, they are so different in character. But give this a watch it is well worth if only for the noise the Agera makes

Indeed. It's like a very expensive version of the bragging rights that you hear down the pub. The petrolhead bloke will be saying how he enjoys driving his MX5/Alfa GTV/E39 M5, only to be laughed at by Mr Bragger with his shiny new white German derv.
Personally I think they look rubbish. The shape of the first Zonda and the way it drove, along with subsequent upgrades established the Zonda legend, along with the "romantic" story of a single man's vision being realised (ie good PR!). Seeing examples of the last Koenigsegg parked up did not make me want one, just admire the owner for spending so much on such a car. Zondas have an entirely different magic about them.
But what do I know, I drive a £1300 shed!

Great video of the Agera R with Fredrik Huldt. The M6 scene shows just how mental this car is.

I know what you mean, these cars are rarely owned by "car" people, sadly, but I like to think that if I were stupid rich I'd give even fewer f***s about what people think of me than I do now. I'd have a Koenigsegg in a heartbeat over a Pagani or a Veyron, possibly the most over hyped car of the last 10 years. I want a Veyron about as much as I want an Audi.....

Koenigsegg stopped using ford modular v8's and started using their own designed engines from the cc8 onwards I think. Gilhooligan said:
I love them!
I'd have an 800bhp, flame spitting ccx over a Ferrari or Lambo any day.
Absolutely. Something about them is so much more appealing because of their raw nature ...I'd have an 800bhp, flame spitting ccx over a Ferrari or Lambo any day.

I was about to mention this video watching that video changed my thoughts on them, its now on the lottery win list.
I watched a Zonda video shortly after and prior to this I would have picked Zonda everytime. After seeing behind the scenes, I would much prefer a Koenigsegg. Magnificent cars.
