If it wasn't so hard for me to justify having even one toy car I'd have another Trophy in a heartbeat. At the current prices I don't see how any petrolhead, unless they hate Renaults or front wheel drive, can afford not to have one. The whole Sachs damper rebuild issue is completely overblown, just buy one of the many Trophys that has had them serviced or budget it into the cost. It's still a stupidly cheap way into owning one of the best hot hatches and indeed performance cars ever made.
+1

I recently bagged a 27k Trophy and have serviced it to mint original condition. I plan on keeping it for some time. It's relatively inexpensive to run, easy to work on and service and parts are not silly. I can't see it losing too much money in the long term either.

Re the integra, its a wonderful car though it is as a buyer it's harder to find what your looking for. Most are modified (most Trophys are not) and the Trophy is only 7 years old so is the most modern car I've ever run.

I do agree this comparison should be against the 182 Cup rather than Trophy and even still I'm not sure they are the same target market. However I personally could never understand buying a new 133 over a low mileage 182/Trophy but then again I hate depreciating assets.

Trying too hard to emulate MINI-cutesiness methinks.
^ This. It's a personal thing but I hate centrally mounted instrument pods (I know the rev counter is in line with the driver which is good). Shame as I was genuinely considering a 133 a while back. Tested one and it was great, but the dash was just horrible. It's what keeps me out of the market for a Z8... that and the lack of 80 odd grand.

I'm jealous. It can't be my old one (298/500) as I put that many miles on it by 2007. I had the dampers unpinned, along with some other subtle mods (Ferodo DS2500 pads, KTec remap) that helped on track. I reset the dampers from zero and found they had been pinned at 18 clicks on one side, 24 on the other (IIRC)! I used to firm them up a bit on track but they were best at 20 clicks (the supposed factory setting) on the road. Anyway, worth doing if you haven't already, just to check they left the factory correct!

Typical of the french. Spend loads of money giving a car state of the art dampers, then sell them not even set up properly. Lazy surrender monkeys.

I had the dampers serviced recently and had them unpinned. I think the setting is 22 clicks from factory. However the rebuilder actually sets the clicks based on the dyno results and it can result in a different setting per side. Whether or not Sachs did this before supplying Renault I don't know.

Mine are both 'perfectly matched' but I've not checked to see if they are the same setting.

Faclifted Twingo RS in Liquid Yellow with the Anthracite pack is a good looking combination...

To be fair though the interior of the mini looks 1000x better than in the twingo.

But once again, a comparable mini does cost more. Twingo has a budget interior, because it's a budget kinda car

I've not driven a Trophy, had a cup packed 182 until about 4 months ago. Have regretted selling it every day since. It was a bit leggy, a bit tatty on the outside (i bought it that way) but it drove absolutely beautifully and surprised many a 'faster' car. Shall definitely be looking at another a bit further into the new year, just debating wether to go the extra and find myself a trophy!

I have had this Twingo for a few days, looks great and handles well but its very cheap inside, poor ergonomics and and doesn't feel that quick, I also think the engine could make a better noise.

I prefered both the Clio and Megane RS's.
Remove the bung in the air box. About the size of a credit card, it's a piece of rubber with nipples that block a few holes. Sounds a lot better and much more purposeful

Clio owner here and I love the twingo, sadly I think it's about the only fun light n/a car to consider these days from new, but if I were to make the change I think I would need more power to bring its performance back in line with 1*2!

I think I'm going to get a clio 200 in a year or two when prices have dropped off! I'm going for a white one smile

What happened to Pedrotunes (guy with the red twingo)? His posts have disappeared from this thread.

I was going to ask him how he came to lease that car. I wonder if leasing cars is a cheap way to "test live-with" (rather than test drive) cars.

Don't you think the Clio 200 is just too heavy? There's a fifth gear video on youtube where they time both the 182 and the 200 round the track and the 182 is just as fast if not faster round the bends. Just think, if the 200 had the same number of gears as the 182, it would probably have lost.

The Clio 200 has a better chassis and more grip than a 182 so fail to see how it is slower around corners? I'm sure those who have had both would concur with that?

Arguably a 'better' chassis, the 182 wasn't perfect but it was a lot of fun to drive, just like the 205 GTi. An inherently unstable chassis that would never be allowed now, which made it great fun in the right hands. The 197/200 is a fair chunk heavier and for that reason loses that small car/big engine feel that the 172/182 had. Still fantastic cars though.

Have you just defended a Renault product TameRacingDriver? I think you might be a closet Francophile but too ashamed to admit it. You do seem to post a lot on Renault threads!

Probably works for a magazine. Someone posted similar about the new 3-series on the BMW section a few months ago and there posts also disappeared.
