Years past I was selling a four year old MK2 Golf GTD diesel in Auto Trader...I got a call from a guy saying he's looking for a Golf diesel for his sister and arranged to come see it, so guy arrives in a 944 and to say he's full of himself would be an understatement.

I pulled the car out the garage and he's all over it like a rash and I'am standing back trying not to listening to all his pish about whats wrong with my car (it was minted by the way) so I went to have a look at the 944 and spotted the Auto Trader in the passenger seat open at the diesel section with lots of cars (not Golfs) circled and clicked he's a trader...next he's wanting to go for a test drive so off we go he couldn't fault it then we started to discuss money, it was advertised for £6000 I offered £150 off he wanted the car for £4000 as this is all his sister had I said no way and headed back.

On returning I couldn't believe what he did he asked me over to his car and pulled a suitcase from inside and opened it up...it was full of cash...he started counting out some money I said hold it whats going on he said I'am getting you £4000 I said what part did you not understand that £4000 will not buy the car then I started getting all this crap from him about its not worth what I'am asking and his poor sister etc etc by this time I'd had enough and in a few short words asked him to leave...I have never had anyone try it on like that when selling my motors what a plonker.

I advertised a car on ebay a few years ago, not mega money, a few £k's worth. In true ebay form I got a question through from a prospective buyer offering me around half what it valued at, he and his mate would drive up (around 100 miles away) that day with cash if I said yes.

I didnt realise it at the time, but there's a feature on ebay that either I'd ticked, forgot to untick, or some other form of voodoo had taken hold. So when I messaged him back asking which half of the car he wanted for that money and not to be a tit, it was posted to the auction page complete with his details. He wasnt happy

I once sold A car privately and the sale went perfectly. A young lad and his mum arranged to come and see the car, had a quick look around and asked if cash was ok? No test drive, no checking of documents and full asking price!

I will add to this story later tonight when either the guy popping round, turns up with 17k or the complete fantasist on the other end of the phone thinks of a good excuse.

I am 50/50 on this fella turning up wink

Good man.

I once sold a Civic and 4 youngish chaps came to check it out. We went for a test drive and I got more and more paranoid about them as they started whispering to each other and I just got a general vibe. It was dark and I doubted they wanted to buy the car. They tried to make a very low ball offer, I declined and they left and I have never been so pleased to see the back of anyone.

I hadn't grown a goatee by this stage and was still a manager so didn't have the credentials to take them all on.

Sold a MK3 Golf 1.8 a few years ago. This old guy turned up and wanted a test drive. I took him out, he had a good look round, couldn't find fault with the car.

Get back to the house and his wife was talking to my wife and she'd gone through all the paperwork and was happy with the car. We'd owned it 5 years so we knew it inside out.

He made me an offer of £1700 less than I was asking and said he was doing me a favour being a young lad as I needed the money.

I politely declined and pointed out the Lada he was driving seemed to indicate he needed the money more than I did. He told me I was rude and condescending and he never wanted the car anyway and stormed out.

His wife came back an hour later and bought the car.

The only time I ever had grief selling a car.

My Gran was selling her 1997 Honda Civic last year and the first people who came to look at it offered her a stupid amount for it, she said she wasn't prepared to take what they offered and with that they looked up at the house (very large property worth circa £850,000) and said 'well you can afford it'. I couldn't believe it when she told me, I don't understand how someone could be so rude!

Listed my Dad's Discovery on eBay with a 99p start and a reserve (of £5,000 IIRC). Within a few hours it had had a few bids and was up to around £500. Had a call from a Welsh farmer who said it was just what he wanted and could he come and view it straight away? An hour later, around the time we were expecting him, I got a very irate call from him.

"How much are you after?"
"Well I don't want to reveal the reserve and there isn't a buy it now price, but the reserve is very low for what it is."
"So you wouldn't take £500?"
"Er, no..."
"Well why advertise it at that price you fking tt, you've wasted my time, fk off."

Nice guy.
