Looking forward to the stinking lease deals on these in a few years time (they were pushing the old model out at £350 per month inc Vat not that long ago).

Personally I can't understand Merc's reluctance to let AMG loose on the E Class coupe. If they can let them loose on limos, saloons and estates you'd have thought a mid size coupe would be perfect.
Ho hum. Definitely an improvement on the old model though.

As I said earlier, rumour has it that this refresh will spawn an E63 Coupe & Convertible.

My son pointed to the picture of this earlier and said 'ladies car'. He's 2.

My son has always been taught by his grandfather "Cheap car, no roof" and it's stuck.

The front on the AMG Sport models is very tasty, really do like the coupe:

For me, the biggest news around this is that this model will apparently have an E63 variant finally. Now an E63 AMG Coupe would be a very very cool machine indeed...
Still got that horrid rear quarter light window then! - Completely spoiling the whole 'pillarless' look.

Me three, split headlight units and the distinctive rear arches were at least something different in a car market where all cars are slowly morphing into the same featureless blobs.

The new design is too safe - the masses will love it.

I'm the camp of preferring the styling of the previous model too. I've sat in a couple and unfortunately, the interior quality isn't on a par with an A6 which is a shame as 25 years ago, the interior quality of the W124 was just that little bit better than the Audi 100.

As an E-Class owner I'd agree the interior quality is not as good as Audi, however it's not poor quality - it's only poor in relation to the very high bar Merc set themselves ago.

Compared to it's competitors, only Audi has it licked IMO, I looked at the 5-series prior to buying the E-Class and it just seemed like a plastic-fest, in particular the leather used for the gear-lever gaiter looks similar to that in my Dad's Skoda!

Can I ask what model you have and had the car been reliable? The parents are considering a nearly new 220 diesel as their next car.

Had the previous model E220 (W211) diesel, pretty much faultless, looked like new inside and out when I traded it.

Swapped for current model C220 diesel (different 220 engine than above, same as new E220 I believe), hated it, due to the engine being a horribly rattly thing that caused the whole dash to vibrate - wouldn't buy an E Class with that engine in it.

Back in the latest E200 (W212) petrol, reliable so far but lacking in poke.

I'd recommend they buy one of the last of the previous model E220 diesels, they run forever if looked after and interior is better quality than the current model IMO

nerd The reason they no longer have the pillar-less look of the old CLK is because of the positioning of the fuel tank. It's an aesthetic shame but I guess on the other hand the newer car's 0.24 Cd (one of, if not the lowest in the industry at present) is of some small recompence.

I quite like the look of the E Class Coupe as long as it's in Sport form, I don't know why they don't do an AMG version though, would sooner have one than the C Class.

yes
The new E class 4 pot engines are horrid. hurl

My 2007 W211 E220, 440k and going strong. smile

I'd recommend the E220 Avantgarde from 56 (Facelift) onwards.
