RE: Time For Tea: GT86 Drifting
Discussion
Yeah needs a turbo to go fast, preferably an auto, driver aids, a family friend interior, a thick steering wheel with a disconnected driving position, a supple ride to make going fast feel slow, a gearbox with a clunky long throw action, a load of extras, an accelerator pedal the wrong way round and a bonnet that seems to never end. I could drive that car all day and get out of it like I'd never driven anything. I'm sorry theres just no room for a slow hard work road car that makes 60 feel like 100 with a perfect driving position which your easily able to place on a challenging road.

the other is not the standard car. Pointless?
Didn't see that apart from the lack of spoiler in the article.Steve
I would love to love this car but no amount of clever advertisement is going to hide the fact it just doesn't have the power of stability to achieve its main selling point.
That second clip really highlights the instability at anything more than a tiny angle and the lack of power to hold a slide or control the angle. Compare it to the natural mastery of the old gt86 being thrown in with such confidence that all can be sorted out in the balance of the slide.. it just makes me want an older car.
The old car is everything the new car is missing.

Your username does not really give a good impression of your driving aspirations/credentials so your opinion to most wont be noticed snyway (no offence to others who have to own a BMW diesel).
Love the look with no spoiler and wider rims.To say it has no grip is bks, it has plenty, the skiddies can be provoked, BUT,you need to provoke them.Am sure there'll be a bit more horsepower in future upgrades, and the aftermarket guys are just getting started on tuning mods. The whole ethos of the car is for it to be massively modded,it's only just been released so stuff will take time to come through.I rekon it will become a total cult car in 5 years time when all variations have been seen out and about. The car as it is now is a blank canvas, think of it as such and you'll see it in a different light.Turbo's,superchargers,
brakes, suspension, wheels etc are all going to be readily available given time.Right now, it wouldn't tempt me out of my 3.0 Z4, but,all I'd need to get into one is a bit more torque, bigger brakes and wheels. It drives really nicely,is light on it's feet, and the driving position is superb.I'm not surprised it doesn't appeal to those brought up on FWD and turbo's, they all deliver their performance differently.I used to have a Renault 5 GT Turbo, great fun when you were in the right frame of mind, but otherwise was hard work for everything else. The GT86 is also great fun when you are in the mood for a hoon,BUT, when you are not, it is still a fine car for everything else.Give it time, there's nothing like it on the market,we as petrolheads should be celebrating the fact that we have this, not slagging it off.

This may be a warning to you all don’t have the car you drive at the time as your user name!!!
As for 120d it fell to bits and again there some fast oil burners out, there are also cars that some over a certain height can’t fit in and use as there daily drives. Driving a go kart to work a back which consists of a 4 mile drive that on a good day can take 40 minutes, I know what I prefer !!
