Yeah the sensation of buying brand new lasts all the way from the forecourt to your front lawn, also known as the "2000 pound parade march"
When I rule the world buying brand new cars will be banned.Everyone will be forced to buy 5 year old cars to give better value for money.

As a well known lefty when I rule the world all nice things will be banned
All car makers will be forced to build new cars as normal but as soon as they roll off the production line they will be left in a field for five years with the doors open.
Duster is the new 2CV IMO - less 'gadgets' = more reliability.
In Germany the basic sells for €10,490 (£8,670 ) so then YOU can choose what extras to add.
http://www.dacia.de/dacia_duster_preise.php
It has ABS and electric front windows as standard so it's not total poverty.€600 extra gets you Security package (side airbags for driver and front passenger, remote central locking, ) I'll bet the Indian model has A-C as standard on the basic model - http://www.renault.co.in/cars/Duster/overview.html
tho HOW MANY scorchers do we have in the British Isles ?
Mind you, as an E430 driver I've become used to life's little luxuries such as ESP / ABS / A-C / 6CD changer ........
On the one hand we love 'basic motoring' but when luxury temptation comes along at an affordable price....

there is such a market segment for a low spec 4x4 i would buy one with wind up windows and no other extras, BUT, it must have air con, which i consider to be more use in the UK than most other options, or if air con is too expensive then why not have a dehumidifier built in, the key thing with air con is that it keeps the car demisted in our damp and as i look outside drisly climate....in the summer...you can always open the windows, oh and i would prefer a diesel as they are more economical

the only thing i'd spec is that e traction control.
i survive perfectly well without aircon. i have no idea what you are talking about RE misting etc? my cars are fine.. ive never had aircon and never had a problem
Absolutely. I live in Scotland, I have aircon, in two of our cars, the other the roof comes off, I've never felt the need to use it. It's been put on a few times, purely to stop degassing the system. i survive perfectly well without aircon. i have no idea what you are talking about RE misting etc? my cars are fine.. ive never had aircon and never had a problem
When I was in the Sahara I used it. But it was quite warm there in the summer.
I don't understand all this chat about what a car MUST have. Surely everything could be an optional extra?
Make the basic car cheap, and if you want the gizmos, you pay extra for each one you spec.
I wouldn't buy a car without a sunroof, but I can live without aircon. Most people think this strange, but I literally never use aircon.

I drove a Duster up the Goodwood Hill at the Moving Motor Show before the main FoS event this year, twice in fact(there was an element of blagging a place, aided by a very stealthy entrance the previous night during setup!). I think I can claim to be the very first member of the UK public to book a test drive in a Duster, which might be quite a claim when DD's are scattered across new-age, value aware Britain.
It drove perfectly well, and as Chris suggests, it's all the better for being so pared back. Keep-fit windows certainly add to the appeal and the Duster makes no apology for it's 'less is more' philosophy. In fact, I'd argue it's too cheap...

Re the people talking about Renaultsport engine conversions, IIRC the 1.6 16v is the K4M, which I know in the old Meganes shares the same engine mount pattern as the 2.0 172 unit. The 200s engine is a revolution of the old 172 units so might be similar. Not sure about engine mount patterns of the newer turbo RS engines, Ktec racing will do an RS clio to Megane R26 Turbo engine conversion. The mounting looks broadly similar on the left hand side.

Why is anybody talking about Renaultsport engine conversions? geeks said:
Just checked the max towing weight and it isn't enough to hump the race car around. Weighs about 1100KG's plus trailer, Dusters max tow weight braked is 1200.. gutted as i was seriously considering one
The 4 x 4 is 1500 kgs so you should be fine.Edited by geeks on Monday 14th January 07:54
