You may want to compare our spec on the 265 to other countries. Ours is much higher IIRC. The UK added a lot of spec to the factory base car.
There are delivery mile 265's available for around £23k.£500 would not have full warranty, dealer finance from new and all the other gubbins new cars come with. I was comparing like for 99.9999999% like. You're just being obnoxious.
There seems to be a silly myth on PH where a new car with 10 miles on the clock is the same as a £300 banger, and cannot be compared with a factory ordered car.
It's perfectly reasonable to make that comparison.
It's just that Renault can hardly price their cars up against any random car pulled off a dealers forecourt that's on special offer.
The Clio may or may not cost £22k if ordered on spec with no discount, but then a megane 265 is somewhere around £27k bought under the same circumstances.
I maintain my view, your comparison is pointless.

So looks and headline power figures are what matter in a hot hatch aimed at drivers?
The fact the car has lost its usp in the class with the use of a turbo lump and the lack of a manual box are the things that make me sad. How it looks and how many numbers it has aren't an issue if it does something special to be a great drivers tool.
They may no be what makes a great hatch, but they are what pulls in you general punter. I doubt that that is going to pull in the punters tbh.
Speaking of great hatches, atm I have a Renault Clio 182 Cup and a Toyota Glanza V parked on my drive. And the misses drives a Satria GTI (Highly underrated!) Ill keep those 3 thanks over that Clio!
When you think about the roots of the Clio, going right back to the Williams, the idea of a small 3 door supermini with a 2.0l N/A engine was just, cool!
This however isn't, its an automatic 1.6 turbo inside an ugly looking 5 door hatch, it simply has no appeal and certainly isn't cool!

If someone released the very same thing now, it wouldn't be cool. It would be seen as old-hat and no-one would buy it due to tax costs and emission levels. Times change! This however isn't, its an automatic 1.6 turbo inside an ugly looking 5 door hatch, it simply has no appeal and certainly isn't cool!
To keep up with the competition, the move to a 1.6 Turbo was inevitable, and DSG doesn't surprise me.
Everyone called the Megane MKII ugly, then the R26R came out and was hailed as a fantastic car.
So tell me, what would be cool now? I guarantee you most blokes down the pub would love to tell their mates about their new hot hatch with it's flappy paddle gearbox!

!
No, it was still ugly but hailed a great driver's car. It still didn't sell. Cars don't need to be good at all these days, they need to be trendy with some image the proletariat can latch onto and identify with. They tried fabricating a trendy image (and it almost worked) with the Mk II Megane with their ads trying to make a virtue of the unusual ass end.!

Until it is released in the UK how does anyone know how it drives or how much fun it is to own which is surely the main point of a hot hatch?
It is fun though to have a whinge on a forum though isn't it x
We all love a good moan. I doubt many of us are really that serious and we all obviously want to be proven wrong and for the car to be a complete riot. Let's just wait and see.It is fun though to have a whinge on a forum though isn't it x
3dr and auto plays in the hands of the forthcoming new shape MINI Cooper S, providing it's available in manual (likely). If it can keep its weight advantage (100kgs?) and therefore lateral grip advantage, then it might become the only serious alternative for those who don't care too much about image. Mind you, can it be worse looking than the Clio ? Possibly... If not, then I guess it's Fiesta ST, which could also be about 100kgs lighter than the Clio, negating the slight power disadvantage, but again helping lat grip and handling.
It's not the prettiest, but many say in the flesh they look a lot better. As for price, who knows? I would have thought it'd have to start under £20k to be under the mental hurdle like the M135i is being under £30k or you could risk not even entertaining potential punters
There's a bit of chat that this new gearbox isn't you're average DSG and is something a bit special. If so I can imagine everyone creaming themselves over it.
Then there's the ride/handling. Renaultsport are really poor at that aren't they?...
So not the prettiest but will be a great steer and pretty fast one too. Wait for the coupé/new 5GT Turbo or whatever it is they've got lined up with the Clio underpinnings so satisfy the 5dr haters/posers

Because it means lower emissions and better numbers on the test cycle!
Spot on. And it normally doesn't mean better mpg once on normal roads compared to manual.David87 said:
Word is the Fiesta ST prices are released tomorrow - £16,995 for the ST1! Current dealer promotions supposedly will bring that down to ~£14.5k...
If you're right, even based on OTR, then that kills off the Clio there and then I guess.Edited by nickfrog on Friday 11th January 10:29

So the prices haven't been released yet however you already know the discounts, mmmmmm! It is possible to know Ford dealer prices and discounts pre-release....the Ford garage in Morley accidentally gave me a new (current model) focus dealer pricing sheet when i was considering getting one some time before the release, it had dealer mark up and "allowed" discount margin on it!
Second, if an ST1 is going to be £16,995, how do ford justify a 1.0 Ecobost (125bhp) 5DR Titanium X at £17,000?
Third £16,995 to £14,500 is a 15% discount...on a new model....I very much doubt that level of % discount will be available from launch.
