RE: Clio RS prices released
Discussion
I wouldn't be so sure about the pricing, if you do the sums the base price in the UK for an RS would be c.£20600...BUT....the same sums on a poverty spec 1.2 Authentique gives you a price of £11,040.
The Equivalent UK model 1.2 expression (that actually has a bit more kit than it Belgium counterpart) is £10,595, so its £445 less but with more toys and that is pre-discount. So can we therefore assume that the RS will be c£19.5k (5% less), but with more kit...starting to look a bit better...but follow that on with the possibility of a cheaper cup version....and its starts to look more promising from a price point perspective.....
Also, the angle of the illustration does it no favors, it looks no worse in the flesh than any other 5dr super mini

I mean, come on, who really cares about Renault these days other than a small number of hardcore Clio hot hatchers?
Renault Sport (Meganne and Clios) are fantastic cars and beat anything else in their class. Not really sure how you can say no one cares about them?
Dozens of diesel snotters need to be sold for every Renault Sport, if the brand is to be sustainable in the UK.
That just ain't gonna happen IMO. The people who used to buy Renaults in large volumes are buying Quashqai's, Kia's, Hyundai's and assorted VAG products.
The Renault range is already cut back massively in the UK. Renault in the UK is in a tailspin toward inevitable doom IMO.

Good point - though that's still about a grand too much up against the Cooper S, I reckon. That said, the Cooper S (not that that's the benchmark, just an ideally-comparable 1.6 turbo of roughly the same size) retails for only around 500 Euro less than the Clio over in Belgium, so if Renault does pitch it squarely against that model, and closer to the 'cooking' range than the Megane RS and Twingo RS, we might see it priced a little more realistically. So I'll be the first to admit that my educated guess could be on the high side! Still seems as though it'll be pricier than the Mini, though - and I'm almost certain it won't hold its value so well.

How could Renault get it so wrong? )
The same way they have got everything wrong.>Practically invented the modern family hatchback with cars like the R16 back in the 70's.
>Genuinely Invented the MPV. Lost their way with lame products, gifted the sector to their competitors. Got it wrong.
>Tried to compete in the massively successful small SUV market with the Koleos. When was the last time you saw one? Got it wrong.
>Had a decent offering in the vanilla saloon and hatch market with the Laguna. Competition moved on. Renault did not. Got it wrong.
>Had a really nice little car that a generation loved, from the Renault 5 in the 70's all the way to the Clio, with Papa and Nicole and healthy sales all over Europe. Competitors moved on. Renault didn't. Got it wrong.
Over the last 5-10 years, Renault management have successfully replaced all of their previously successful lines with dull, unimaginative versions that the car buying public has pretty much rejected. Great job, guys.
Only thing at Renault that actually works is their JV with Nissan and , of course, Dacia. The rest is a disaster.
It is a shame. I used to love Renaults. One of my favourite cars I ever had, was my R19 16v. It is a shame to see such a great legacy squandered away.
