WAY too much ground clearance at the front which sadly makes it look like a 1.2
I think they probably havent uploaded the correct photo yet and thats what we are seeing tbh.
I agree - that simply cannot be the RS version I think they probably havent uploaded the correct photo yet and thats what we are seeing tbh.
Love the weight-bashing going on already too from people who haven't driven the car.
It is one ugly bugger though!

How could Renault get it so wrong? )
The same way they have got everything wrong.>Practically invented the modern family hatchback with cars like the R16 back in the 70's.
>Genuinely Invented the MPV. Lost their way with lame products, gifted the sector to their competitors. Got it wrong.
>Tried to compete in the massively successful small SUV market with the Koleos. When was the last time you saw one? Got it wrong.
>Had a decent offering in the vanilla saloon and hatch market with the Laguna. Competition moved on. Renault did not. Got it wrong.
>Had a really nice little car that a generation loved, from the Renault 5 in the 70's all the way to the Clio, with Papa and Nicole and healthy sales all over Europe. Competitors moved on. Renault didn't. Got it wrong.
Over the last 5-10 years, Renault management have successfully replaced all of their previously successful lines with dull, unimaginative versions that the car buying public has pretty much rejected. Great job, guys.
Only thing at Renault that actually works is their JV with Nissan and , of course, Dacia. The rest is a disaster.
It is a shame. I used to love Renaults. One of my favourite cars I ever had, was my R19 16v. It is a shame to see such a great legacy squandered away.
Is the French car industry heading for the same fate as ours? The Koreans seem to have moved in hugely on the markets the French traditionally ruled. Won't be long before China is offering some strong competition of its own.

Only a few years ago you could get a Megane R26 for £16k new.
could you?Maybe as a last of the line, sat in the dealers unsold stock kind of £16k after hefty discounts.
But then look at where that business model got them....
I'll agree it's no looker but I suspect the image in the article is just a generic website thing to allow you to spec your colours, it certainly looked (slightly) better in the press releases.
Hopefully Renault haven't dropped the ball though, like many I've always had a soft spot for them & my R26.R was genuinely up there with the best of all the exotica I've owned.
Just remember when they released the 197 Clio though, it wasnt well received initially & look how well that turned out
I had a go on the Belgium renault website, as well, and I do think that the configurator may distort the proportions of the car a bit and the various options on the car (wheels, colour , cup chasis, xenon highlights etc) do have a big impact. Think i'll hold my final judgement till I see the car in real life although I have to say the standard car looks a lot better in real life than in any pix i've seen.
Just isn't shouting RS at all and whilst the 172 and 182 didn't have dramatically altered bodywork like the 197/200, you couldn't mistake them for their lesser brethren. This is as limp to look at as the volume-chasing paddle and turbo combination is. It doesn't matter if it's better on paper and in the real world, being technically better is for appliances, not cars.

It's ugly as sin. 200bhp? It's also outgunned by everything else in it's class. Good luck Renault Sport!
So looks and headline power figures are what matter in a hot hatch aimed at drivers? The fact the car has lost its usp in the class with the use of a turbo lump and the lack of a manual box are the things that make me sad. How it looks and how many numbers it has aren't an issue if it does something special to be a great drivers tool.
Fess up, which one of you at PH had a looksy at my man maths posting on the Renaultsport forum...?
'....apparently the Megane RS265 is priced at 29,500 EUR in Belgium. Which in Sterling is £24,045.
Soooooo...since the Meg RS265 costs us £26,040 here in the UK, or 31,946 EUR, we can safely say....we pay more for the equivalent RS Megane, and I doubt we get 2000 Euros worth of extra kit.
So if pay about 6% more. That should mean the base RS Clio will be priced at £21,557, or £22,455 with Cup pack and infotainment in the UK.'
Really hope Renault realise that selling their 200bhp Clio at the same price as a pre-reg Megane RS265 after negotiations isn't going to go down well.

You may want to compare our spec on the 265 to other countries. Ours is much higher IIRC. The UK added a lot of spec to the factory base car. '....apparently the Megane RS265 is priced at 29,500 EUR in Belgium. Which in Sterling is £24,045.

22k is about what I paid for my RS Megane 250 Cup back in September 2010.
But Renaultsport is now a victim of parent company Renault's financial woes. It deparately needs sales but also needs to make big profits on those sales, hence the complete lack of any genuine "Renaultsportness" in the new Clio. The fewer details that differentiate RS versions from "cooking" versions, the less it costs Renault to make. The Clio RS is therefore visually identical to the tin box granny will take to the shops on Sunday morning. And five doors!! Durrrrr, end of an era.
But what about the Meg RS250 / RS265? Well, they are quite simply the best fast hatches EVER.

How's about some real pictures of real cars rather than computer renderings?
(all from various non-Renault sources)
And to answer some points..
No, there's no wider wings/arches as per clio 200, but the standard arches on the standard Clio are wide enough (wait until you see one in the flesh) also, the 225/230/R26 Meganes didn't have any kind of wider bodywork, just different front/rear bumpers as this car does.
1.6t Vs 2.0 N/A - The outgoing engine was a good one, but it was also very thirsty and you had to wring it's neck to get it to crack on. The main complaint from those driving it was the poor fuel economy and having to be 'on it' all of the time. The new engine should improve day-to-day driveability and also be better on fuel. The 1.6t will also give more tuning options.
The new DCT gearbox is built by Getrag and should be fantastic, differing shift times and what looks like a 'race' option to cut down shift times when you want to crack on.
5 Door/3 Door. I suppose it is personal opinion, If you don't like 5 doors then tough luck really.
I for one think it will be a cracking car to drive and to live with every day. I will be holding out until Recaros are available (as they won't be at launch) and then will be cracking on with getting my greasy hands on one!!
Also, weight wise. I'm pretty sure this car is the same or even less than the outgoing Clio 200.......
