I'm more worried about the banning of HANS devices tbh. I'm doing my dissertation on them, and have dug up some unnerving info, like the fact your neck can snap in a 45mph impact!

You're basically better off with a 3 point belt and airbags than a full harness if you're not allowed a HANS!
I'm sure I'm not alone in perhaps hearing a slightly more expanded version of your findings
This ... would make interesting reading as a PH Feature, IMO

That's my E28 banned from the public sessions, then.

Door bars!
Just a thought - looking at that (love it by the way) I think that the 'ring overlords are more likely to take exception with the lack of door cards than the bars (I've heard of open door shells being rejected at the gate before - it is to do with the exposed edges being considered needlessly dangerous and even the old Dutch registered RSR Alfas had aluminium skins riveted in on the ones where the original cards had been stripped out). Might be worth tacking the worlds thinest panel of plywood/cardboard/fabric over those before going.

I honestly think that anyone following the spirit of these rules, if not the letter will probably be okay. The impression that I get is that they want to remove racing cars and poorly prepared track cars with potential deathtrap features from TF. I'd expect, indeed hope that anything that is obviously lovingly and professionally prepared with no sharp pointy corners will still be welcome.

It has to be CF though, surely? wink

Lol. No winged buckets, no quick-release wheels, no door bars, no rotary-buckled harnesses. That's probably a large wodge of track cars out then!
Would that not also include a large majority of Caterhams?

Does this stupidity extend to motorcycles? I thought you might have said as there are 3 of them in the main picture up there.

It's not that bad:
Winged buckets - bolt in a cheap out of date seat from Ebay
No quick release wheels - a standard momo/omp/sparco boss is a cheap and easy replacement
No rotary bucket harness - again raid ebay for a cheap out of date harness

It's the door bars that's the deal breaker as it rules out pretty much all weld-in cages. Bolt-in jobs should be ok as most have detachable door bars.
I need the Q/R wheel to get in and out of my Caterham and it came from the factory with harnesses too. Looks like I'm not wanted then as it wasn't made in Germany frown

Door bars!
Im not so sure...

Door bars which restrict access, to me, are crossed bars which you have to hurdle in order to get in or out.

Ive seen 944s with winged seats (which I take to mean helmet-catchers) and crossed bars which a limbo dancer couldnt get in and out of unaided!

In the end they have had to replace the seat with something more reserved, like yours, in order to satisfy the scrutes that they could safely get out of the car in time.

Door bars like yours dont impede access in that manner and I dont believe that theyre what the owners are seeking to ban. After all, if they did they could just have said 'no door bars'.

Good to see they are banning Driiiiffffffffffting, but isn't it time they put a weight restriction on the road? I'd hate to be flat out down the fuchsrohe only to find a coachload of tourists doing 40mph at the top of the blind crest on the way out of the dip.

Don't worry the rules list: upgraded or not standard removable steering wheels are banned.
The caterham has got it standard, as well as the rotary harness.
I think I will be ok with my Caterham, ok-ishh with the XTR2 if I can convince them it's all standard options.

I shouldn’t worry too much I doubt they will enforce any of these rules, there were already loads of rules in the small print that no one ever read or followed anyway.
When I was there in 2011 they were letting hatch back cars out with 6 people in (ie 4 people in the back) clearly not even wearing seat belts and camper vans loaded with all sorts, and full on race cars on slick tyres with almost every race aid fitted that was possible. Day to day I don’t think the staff are paid enough to really to deal with arguments involved in enforcing the rules.

They would've done ...yes... but couldn't find pictures of a moto with a cage and harnesses...

Thanks for the update Dale, be interesting to see how many of these "silly season" rules are enforced when the first dates come around

So Dale, is there any news on what the change in corporate ownership or management means for the stability of the ring? Is this a clean sheet or is everything still attached to Nurodisney and vulnerable to the risk of closure (on a pessimistic interpretation)?

I had an indepth chat with a german copper at the ring a couple of years ago; she was crystal clear on the rules then - it's a toll road, but on public land - so a public road; there are speed limits of course - ex muhle & the gantry-to-bridge section, and there have always been limits on noise, roadworthiness etc. One of my lasting memories is a UK registered Volvo 940 estate all dressed up like ghostbusters - man did the marshalls go over it with a fine tooth coomb - but it got through! Drifting - well you wouldn't get away with it on a public road. At least the place is still open. Many of us thought the place wouldn't even have been open much longer... so glad it is :-)

BTW, my previous comment was meant ironically smile
