last October I got pulled at the barrier in my Noble M400 that has Carbon wing ends & front Carbon cannards late in the day after completed several laps throughout. After 10 minutes of them trying to tell me off like a teacher to schoolboy & not let me on a GT3 RS 4.0 pulled beside with front cannards, then shortly after by chance an Merc AMG with cannards & closely followed by a KTM Crossbow with bodywork all over the place partially stregthened my case of going on.
...
It does come across a German/Austrian made car is fine but not a UK car only the pressence of the other makes of 'Cannarded' cars I was let back on.
What you have to bear in mind is that the cars that you mention come from the factory like that - i.e. are fully TUV certified as safe for use on the public roads. Anything modified with bits that are not certified OE components for something with full German type approval : isn't (unless you were to put your car through German TUV certification, which from the description it would fail). The reason that those cars are allowed on and yours isn't is that they are type approved to be safe. You either aren't, or if Noble put them on your car and type approved it in Germany: you need them to provide the appropriate document and that will get you through the gate.

If has nothing to do with where your car is made, it is all about the availability of paperwork...
I'm very aware of the above including documentation, talking in the real World not a certified one!
When the mentioned cars came back from their lap I then insisted they inspected the cars then compared to mine, they did & perhaps reluctantly agreed all the mentioned cars would do same or similar damage & external cannards are more dangerous than a car without, they then immediatly let me back on & the next day too with no bother.

Plus I offered to remove them to enable re-entry to the Ring which to my amazement they were ok to for me to leave them on.

It may well be different this year, if that's the case I'll simply take them off in the car park...

I suppose they are finally trying to kerb race cars attitudes going over the top on public days, one major reasons i stopped going regularly in recent years too many want to be racing heros with zeros.

Regarding that lovely E28 - door cards have always been a necessity at the 'Ring. They hate sharp edges, cut dashboards etc... and those doorbars like fine to me. As somebody else posted, it's the high mounted cross bars that are causing the beard-pulling amongst the yellow jackets!

Lupo gti's are screwed then with aluminium bonnet wings and doors. and also why no ali? they afraid it will cause flying shards of metal that fly off?

I'm going to take up up golf at least it involves hitting something as hard as possible! might even prove more exciting than all this h&s bs.

Andy, lots of cars have alloy panels (MX5s too). In my article I am referring to bolt-on ally spoilers, not body panels.

Good story Dale, will be intersting to see if they will be stringent at the entry point of the race circuit - sorry public road.

I feel it is a good move as previously mentioned on public days the difference in the level of drivers skill and the massive difference between the cars/coached/bikes performance is massive, if it helps reduce incidents it is a good move.

I hope they will cut down on the public days and offer more track days for the road regd track cars.

so this would be banned (like ron's fleet of meganes?)

so you need one with push button release instead?

would do you have in the swifts?

if i can get a definative answer on weather it's safe to hang the shoulder straps off the mini GP's luggage bar i'm going to get some of the above but want to make sure i get the right ones!

So really what they are promoting are unsafe cars on a 'racetrack'?! (I know its not a 'racetrack' in tourist mode but lets face it, its not the M25!)

Ive been driving the Ring for years, and altough I have one of those road legal race cars I cant believe that they can make this stick!! Short of putting crap seats in etc what the hell! And door bars? what - will they make you get out to see if you can get out your car without looking like a complete retard? Then what level of retardation will they scale it by?

Just because you have a race car doesnt mean your trouble for the kid in the civic on his 1st outing.
Fact is the kid in the civic is more likely to crash in a standard car with no knowledge of this environment. When I go I go for the fun of it etc. Just makes me angry that I now may have to take the E36 daily with no safety devices to enjoy the Ring!

frown sad day for all drivers!

You *must* take these rule changes with a pinch of salt, but also be prepared to change stuff if you're denied entry.

For example, the rotary buckles are standard for the R26.R. For one very busy, very politically charged week all of the RSR Nürburg R26.Rs were banned from the track. We (I was working there, back then) lost thousands and thousands of euros of rentals and had lots of pissed-off customers. I tried everything, showed them the type-approval certificates etc...

It was only when Renaultsport got wind that their new flagship model was banned that the ban was repealed. Not surprising, as after spending lots of money testing and getting sticker rights for the model you'd be a little bit pissed if the next headline after "Fastest FWD around the ring" was "Banned from the ring".

So would my Evo V be banned? The OEM spoiler has an aluminium blade.

Wings mustn't 'protrude' beyond the sides of the car. If it's totally standard, it should be fine. If it's an eBay special bolted to the back of a Vectra, expect scrutiny...

Extremely doubtful. As was said earlier in the thread, other cars where those features are OE in the German market (regardless of origin, even French) are also unaffected. The rule of thumb is that if you are stock (whatever that is) you ought to be fine.

I'd rather rent one of the excellent Swift's tbh. The pain of driving my Clio Cup there and back (although it was memorable) wasn't much fun and although taking on the Ring with your own car is more 'special'...once you've done it, rentals are a great solution. I'd only take the Clio back if I was confident I was faster than I am now to see what the difference would be in my more focused car.

Last year I was told (not at the track) that protruding bonnet pins needed to be taped up and padded so we did that front and rear, nobody seemed to pay any attention to my car with the lack of door cards etc.

You will be fully insured in the rental.

You won't be if you buy one in the UK.
