I like the 599 as well guys, but come on!

I do quite like this Corvette, but as soon as I saw the side profile, I thought the back end was a bit too bulbous for the low sleek front end. Although, I do agree it's similar to the 599's shape from this angle, the 599 works so much better. It has a better balance between front and rear and looks so much more cohesive.

The main point is, the new Corvette Stingray just smashed the F-Type. It's like an extinction event - pre Stingray, post Stingray. PS, post-Stingray, big, lumbering, morbidly obese, massively over price-tagged species, like the big cat Jaguar, were killed off at a stoke, by lean, mean, powerful killers like the new Stingray... .
Once you've spent a bit more time here, you'll learn to pull your neck in a bit there, my friend. The vette and the Jag are for entirely different audiences. Some people like to be y'know, "un-American"?

Smaller Jags are hardly vapourware as well - they're building a whole new factory to make four cylinder petrols and diesels - and that's not just for the poverty-spec XFs and Evoques.

I like this 'vette, even if the bonnet is a mess of creases, but there's plenty of room in the market for both - people don't stop buying 3-series' when a faster, lighter A4 / C-Class / Mondeo comes out, and all three of those are much more similar to one another than the protagonists in this deathmatch that you've set up.

It's a no from me, simply because while GM see fit to ignore the UK, Japan, Australia, NZ etc., I'm quite happy to ignore them too.

Big fan of this, plus the new interior is light years ahead of the old one, but....

As is seemingly the case with most US cars, they've gone 99% of the way, then cocked up. See the trim next to the infotainment screen.

All nicely integrated screen, nice buttons below, rotary knobs etc, all very good. Then they put a big bit of black plastic to the left of it to house the volume control and one singular button from a 1980's GM sedan that says 'Screen' on it - no doubt to control the brightness. Utterly rubbish.

Seriously, who the hell signed that off?

Until you see the switch panel (light switches?) on the left hand side of the steering wheel (under the diver's air vent). It's basically a piece of grey plastic which switches you can find on any GM cars. And guess what GM is claiming about this interior design? They claim in their own design clinics, customers preferred the C7's interior to the R8 two-to-one, and they skewed four-to-one over that of the 991. IMO, GM should use some kind of independent 'clinics' next time. Otherwise, what's the point...

Hope its wider than the last one. I won't be satisfied until a car is built too wide to fit a standard motorway lane. This car will be a perfect fit for uk congested cities and everyone knows red ones are faster
Well I hope one day you get what you want, Nick.

The C6 was shorter, narrower and lower than a 911 Turbo. The only dimension that was greater on the C6 was the wheelbase - but that doesn't make the car bigger. I'll have to read up on the C7 dimensions to see how it stacks up, but when Clarkeson et al said the C6 was too big for British roads, they obviously hadn't measured it or had omitted to level the same criticism at the flagship model coming out of Stuttgart.

Sorry if this disappoints you - your quest continues.....maybe consider a GT35R - I don't know how big they are, but they look huge. [rolleyes]

Mmmmm...like that. A bit more of a departure design-wise then we've seen for some time with the Vette, but it doesn't look like such an 80s throwback anymore.

Oh, and as for comparisons to the 599, the first thing I thought when the Maranello creation arrived is 'they've copied the Corvette'. Love a Ferrari and a 599 in particular, but Chevy got their first on the design front.

Well done GM.

So from that i assume that is why they all look the same because its got to be
the most aerodynamic shape for that front engined - rear drive look... so they
will all look similar.

Definitely worth waiting for, prefer it in the grey, as opposed to the red though. Also, as already stated by others, not keen on the exhausts lay out, but all in all, glorious!

Looks not to bad, but the big question is , is it as good as a 991?. I hope so.

I watched the live launch of this on Youtube. I wanted to hate this because A) It's American, B) OHV engine C) 450BHP from a 6.2 is underpowered these days!
But I really like the look of it, and the sub 4-second 0-60 got me thinking, is this the GT86 of its class? Showing that handling is more important than power? (Since its 100BHP down on an M5)

What on earth does it have to do with an M5?

Firstly I'm a C5 Z06 owner - and I love it. My favourite car that I have to drive. It's been bullet proof and cheap to run ( OK it's does around 15mpg but I do drive the "nuts" off it !

The C6 models are lovely as well - at some point I'll upgrade to a C6 Z06 or in the ideal world a ZR1 but this new C7 is dog ugly.

Corvette seem to have a cycle of 2 models good ( C5 & C6 ) then 2 models bad (C3 & C4)

I don't think you can call it underpowered for its class. What sports-cars can you buy for the money that have more power?

Not completely sold on them calling it a Stingray however
Agreed.

The Stringray name was a bit iffy being applied to the C3 in my view, let alone being brought back 30 years on for the C7.

Other than that it gets a thumbup from me smile

Looks nice but someone explain why Chevrolet persist with transverse leaf springs on the Vette?
I don't think this one does - the blurb on the website says it uses all-round wishbones with third-generation magnetic dampers.
All recent Corvettes have used all round wish bones etc. don't confuse the spring with the suspension set up its just a spring. It will still use composite leaf springs.

Not too sure if I like this to be honest. I will wait until I see one in the flesh.

Think the back end, rather than GTR or others that have been quoted, looks like the 2006 Prodrive P2...

We're all very sorry you were sacked from your job in the mail-room at Jaguar. But I think its time you let this go.
Haven't a clue what you're on/on about, fella. I'm an engineer(Ingenieur/C.Eng., not 'washing machine engineer'), so I wouldn't be working/worked at 'Jaguar', would I, which was rather my point, as Jag/JLR's schtick is PR, not real, fantastic engineering, like what the good ole boys at Detroit pulled out with this marvellous Stingray product.

By the way, anyone with half a brain cell knows JLR planted the '800 new jobs'(many of which are actually agency/temp, just to cover the initial ramp up of the 2013 R/R/RRS) story with their usual Brit media helpers yesterday, as a spoiler piece on today's Detroit Motor Show generally, at which they have zip new to show, and specifically to try to divert attention from the wonderful, half the price to an F-type new Corvette, knowing it would blow the cynically conceived and wholly Marketing-reliant 'new' F-type clean out of the water. Hasn't worked, anyway. The reception in America and pretty much everywhere else has been rapturous to the Corvette, and all but the obviuous shills and trolls lurking on forums such as these, whether hired and paid for their efforts by JLR or not, know it.

(btw comparing BMW 5 series with Jaguar is completely pointless. BMW also sell more 3 series in the UK than Ford do Mondeos, what does that mean? fk all.)
er, again, not sure what you're rambling about. My point was clear. Without the F-type as a sucess in the US, Jaguar as a brand is finished. The new Corvette is already an assured massive hit. Ergo, the F-type is almost certain to suffer, and hence Jag go bang. Too simple for you?

My point comparing BMW's sales of just the 5-series in the US to Jag's total w/wide sales was to illustrate how insignificant Jag really is, once you get past the 'Brits/Brit cars rule the world' mentality/propaganda of the Brit based auto media. Okay, fella? Alles klar?
