Outstanding! Overdue a TVR Carpool!

What does he mean by the tax being PLG?
Typo? Presume he means LPG.
Means he's on the old tax rate (currently £220ish????)because its from a small manufacturer and didn't need to be tested on the current emmissions tax rate.

PLG = Private Light Goods.

TVRs seem to be registered under this category, I assume because of the low number made.

It also has the effect of making car tax cheaper than it would otherwise be.

Edit - Beaten to the reply. And forget to mention that it looks like a really nice TVR. Hopefully it is coming to Chatsworth this year.

Correct and where emissions figures aren't available. Which is why you still pay £230-ish pa for a 640hp 5.8 litre GT500.

Thanks. Presumably this means all TVR's went through the SVA test?

I can't help wondering whether, had TVR bought in LS engines back in 1998, whether they might still be here.
I would certainly have been more inclined to have bought one and probably would have.

Without a shadow of doubt, creating their own engines was the downfall. The amount of cars that had to go back to be repaired was rediculous. My car was in 6 times for rebuild (before I bought it) under warranty. That 1 car must have cost them a fortune alone, never mind the others that had been back.

TVR did great when they were borrowing engines from other manufacturers.

I'm lucky enough to live in the village that Topcats is based.

Love the rare occasdion I can hear TVRs roar up the country roads smile

B S Motorsport are also in the village so there's usually a few Porsches kicking about too.

A good read. Sounds like a great conversion, but what sort of power does the new engine develop?
The Ls7 produces 500bhp out of the box, dependant on exhaust/intake and fuel but around that figure im sure this car will be putting down.

Don't know about Simon's but the Sagaris that is mentioned, has 550hp with the same engine.

Relatively easy to achieve, 500is out of the box, new cam in it and a re-tune should net 550 without any issues, even a free flowing exhaust, good quality intake and 98ron fuel with the right map might realise 550.

Go further and fit a big cam, better heads and you can get more again, impressive engine smile

That was an excellent read - very well written CarPool article; and of course, even better to be able to HEAR as well as read about the conversion!!
The car looks sensational (is it Halcyon Hebrides colour?), and it's quite a shock on hearing the start up "rumble" rather than the straight 6 "rasp"....

Whilst some purists may not like having the TVR built engine replaced (and that's a discussion for elsewhere TBH), this article is about this particular car, and boy, would I like to have it in my garage, owned by me!!!!! wink

I'd be very interested in "ballpark" costs........ I know it can be a sensitive subject (need Man-ecconomics to justify this as a cost saving over buying a new 500bhp+ 1200kg sportcar.... ) but would be good to know approx costs...... But the end result is sensational.

Keep on driving it and enjoying it!!

550 brake is well over 150 more than the fastest 'standard' TVR came with - which would make this Tusc a rocketship.

Performance figures? 0-100 in 8-ish I presume . . .

Tuscans are notorious for indecent behaviour: how's this one . . . in the hands of a decent driver of course.

Superb kit.

Simon is a decent driver - and having been part of the trips he has taken this beast on for many years, I have considerable 1st hand experience. I am sure he will be along shortly to confirm output, but that estimate is not far off. The car is actually very reasonable to drive and I don't think Simon would state it is a "handful". All I can speak to to demonstrate this sentiment is that on a recent trip, when we were both side-by-side and pushing on, he took off like he was in 1st gear. In my Mk 1 Tuscan 3.6li, I would not have wanted to go much more on the rev limiter in the gear I was in but Simon disappeared into the distance relatively rapidly.

He won't mind me saying though that the Sp6 through carbon cans is still louder smile
