The purpose of the project, btw, is 3 fold: 1 to have a usable estate car (that isn't some boring diseasel snotter), that is 2) a complete hoot to drive on the roads, and 3) A hoot to hoon around a track - plenty of tail-out fun, I predict. So, ideally, around 400bhp, plenty of torques, acceptable fuel economy on the road, able to swallow a heavy load (oo-err) & tow a trailer, and yet still look like a boggo Mk2 granny estate...
LS has to be the best bet then surely...?

A lot of your reasons for your conversion are much the same as Blair when he put a LS1 into his E46 coupe.

By the sounds of it..... yes, except that I already have a spare 1UZ-FE & don't really have enough cash washing about for an LS....

However, there's no reason why it can't be re-transplanted if the Lexus engine doesn't live up to expectations biggrin

I recently bought a Grand Cherokee SRT8. So many people on this forum just roll out the standard "it's a fat SUV that has no purpose in the world" without ever having driven one. I am mad about cars, I've been a petrolhead since I was a kid. My wife is long-suffering due to my obsession. The Jeep is every bit as "evo" as the other cars in my life which include a C63 and 370Z. I don't have the C63 anymore; I wanted another car to give me that V8 sound and acceleration while being more family friendly with a better ride. The GC fits the bill perfectly. I have done a few thousand kms in the Jeep now and much prefer it as an overall car compared to the AMG.

All this talk of poor cornering is just total b******s. I got back from a trip to the Victorian Alps last week and the Jeep provided all the interaction and handling ability that I would want from a car on the road. In 'sport' mode, I very much doubt most supercars would be able to get away from it. Yes you can't tail slide it but most Audi RS cars are the same so what?

If you drive on the track regularly and can only have one car then yes this wont float your boat but that was never the point of it. As an all rounder for the road however it is awesome.
Do you have the original srt8 jeep or the one after approx 2010/11 with the 6.4?

Im still waiting on my 'local' dealer (40 miles away) to ring me back to arrange a demo in one. Even after 2months of my nagging its still not sorted and have more or less given up on the idea.

Some dealers/jeep uk dont do themselves any favours as the car itself looks quite good value compared to x5m, ml63, etc

Ah well, onwards and upwards!
