My shed is a 1996 Micra with 199965 miles. £300 on Ebay with lpg fited! A few new bits like tyres and discs etc. Great shedding at 40mpg on lpg-equivalent to about 70 on petrol.
It is a hoot to drive, no pas, electric windows, central locking etc. So many dents that people avoid it! Used to be a driving school car apparently. The engine is getting a bit rattly, so I bought a spare 40000 mile one for £120!
All saves money + wear and tear on the Esprit and R/rover.

I've had my 1995 Audi A4 shed now for nearly 3 years, I bought it with 53000 on the clock for £281 it's been absolutely faultless,
But I've now splashed out and bought myself an expensive 20 year old Audi cabriolet for £700 so the shed is going to go into semi retirement come April and will be dragged back out of the garage next October.

I don't know what materials Audi build there cars out of but they are built to last.

The best winter sheds are the ones you dig out of the snow, then clear the snow off the car. With the shovel....

....just checking, but is this actually a shed (as in good SOTW fodder) or just a cheap runabout?

My shed is a 1998 Fiesta zetec, £400 off ebay over a year ago & £220 to insure. I think we put around £20 a week in fuel, it returns over40mpg. The last mot cost me less than £200 including labour. I will fix nothing unless it stops it being drivable.

It's abused, treated like a skip, never serviced although I did top up the oil once, the dog jumps all over it when soaked & covered in mud, its never cleaned, it stinks & I rarely ever lock it. I dump it anywhere I can find a space with no concerns about it getting clouted. My wife hates it & says it embarrasses her. I bloody love it.

As a petrol head who usually keeps my car clean to the point of obsession It feels wonderful to just not give a st about it.

Shed win. I also drive a 306 diesel I picked up for a little more than yours...albeit a 60k miler which in summer seemed to be in mint condition, mechanically at least...roll on today and the cold has overcome the feeble glow plugs, 25 quid should see me back in business. It's great fun to drive and unlike my Mustang I just park and forget....

I spent £350 on a 2001 Toyota Avensis... GLX!

It had climate control, and sat nav even.

I was a D-4D so got nearly 50 MPG, and loads of space for four blokes to go to and from work.

I guess driving in the snow might have something to do with it.

Having a high performance RWD car in the snow would be about as helpful as a heart attack.

Agree on the cleaning!

My shed, a £250 Mondeo has not seen a sponge since I bought it in may. 11,000 miles of road grime is actually giving it some character!

Glad I'm a shedder amongst friends.

Ref the cleaning then massive thanks to Richard Tipper from Perfection Valet who worked nine hours on the car without a break for 'fun'. He does my CSL and decided that the 306 had to be done to see if it could be done, and the answer was a resounding yes. He's much more used to Ferraris, Porsches and Astons but there is just something about this old 306. Interior is now like new, the biege really comes out in the sun.

My winter shed has heated cow armchairs, a working retractable blind! cruise control, climate control, a parrot to talk to, it does 46mpg in wafty comfort & it only cost 5 train tickets smile

I refuse to pay for public transport so opted for the "see what can be found on ebay near the station" & bought a Rover 75 Connoisseur SE CDTi instead with six months rent, half a tank of dino juice & a long mot.

Some wiper blades, a bulb & snow tyres are the only expense so far

STDT - top of the range if you ignore the GTi. Great cars with the passive rear steer, much like.

Got to love a shed.

Something very satisfying about driving something so unfashionable and spending as little as possible on it (tyres aside).

I had a mint mondeo - one of the very first with the horizontal rear light clusters - one owner, only 30k on the clock, FSH for only £400. The 1.6 engine was gutless and the interior free from any extras but I genuinely loved it from the flat blue paint to the spongy velour seats.
I lent it to a mate who then wrote it off. He gave me my £400 back but I was heartbroken.

I think this explains the rapid growth of the sub £1k bargain basement thread - no matter what your financial situation, there is something very satisfying about minimal cost motoring. Some stunning cars in there as well - I think we're capturing almost all the sub £1k cars that are any good!

Until recently I had the 306/weekend combo. Unfortunately I was quite bad at the whole shed thing and bought a 306 Rallye which has cost significantly more to run lately than my Exige. Even more unfortunate is that since I got a company car, Mrs Chevronb37 has been running the Rallye as well as her Punto Sporting. This means we're rapidly accumulating vehicles we have neither the money, nor the space for. Shedding is a dangerous business if you're not fond of selling stuff...

Horrific, on every level. You have proved that you can't polish a turd, but you can sprinkle it in glitter. Well done.

I almost did this last week with a 45mpg, five hundred quid purchase on classic insurance.

Unfortunately my girlfriend doesn't get maths, either regular or man, so now I have a Jag I'm scared to take out in the ice and salt. Woot.
