RE: Tell Me I'm Wrong: Aston Martin V8 Zagato
Discussion
I remember that edition of CAR Magazine and maintained a discrete respect for the V8 Zagato based on the widely reported Rowan Atkinson connection and the fact that the convertible version was the World’s Fastest Convertible for a considerable time thereafter both of which appeared to lend it some kudos.
You could always go for the non-Vantage version with the low profile bonnet if it offended but overall, the looks fell into the only-a-mother-could-love category and were rather too close the contemporary Reliant Scimitar for comfort in my book.
Long live the DB4 GT Zagato!

MONKEY: YOU. ARE. RIGHT.
The Zagato was a car that looked like no other. As a youngster on holiday in Greece I too remember reading that same issue and then a few years later having a model GTO by Bburago. Beautiful lines but lacked the visual drama of the Zagato. It looked cool in the bright blue of Rowan's car.

Never noticed the similarity between the Zagato convertible and the Scimitar SS1. Didn't William Towns design the SS1 as well as the Aston Martin V8 on which the Zagato was based? You could always go for the non-Vantage version with the low profile bonnet if it offended but overall, the looks fell into the only-a-mother-could-love category and were rather too close the contemporary Reliant Scimitar for comfort in my book.

I'm not entirely convinced Zagato have ever designed anything that looks good. Can someone prove that they have?
in no particular order...Alfa Romeo 6c 1750 Zagato Spyder
Aston Martin DB4 GT Zagato
Lancia Hyena
Lancia Flaminia Sport Zagato
Alfa Romeo Giulietta SZ
Ferrari 250 GT Zagato
Slightly controversial but I prefer the Fulvia Zagato to the regular Fulvia Coupe....
And the DB7 Zagato works better to my eyes then the regular one (and saloon > volante, always)
Aston has had some weird styling in the past, but really like the way they come out with something unusual now and then. See the Lagonda and Bulldog:

'I loved the 80s: the cars, the music, the complete lack of smug hindsight over previous decade.'
True. The great irritant of this decade is the inability to separate platform and content. The 80's still had content.
I remember that edition of Car. The one that did it for me was the Alfa One - 'The Sun also rises' - with the launch of the 75 - think it was 'son' as opposed to 'sun' - it was a long, long time ago. I remember reading it on a rainy holiday in wales in the 80's. Took me miles and miles away.
By the way - great car. You could not be more right. It's probably best that you haven't driven one though.
