No, no, no. This and the Lagonda were low points for Aston. Hideous - and not in a cool way (e.g. Alfa SZ, also styled by Zagato?)
Interestingly, both these cars saved the company. The Lagonda was the only one which was really selling in the late 70s/early 80s, and its doubtful they would have survived without it. The boss of Aston at the time, Victor Gauntlett was quoted as saying that he envied the 288GTO: the idea of a limited edition concept car with orders taken up front gave them a huge cash injection. So (among many other reasons) the Zagato project went ahead as a way to give a large cash injection which was used to develop the replacement for the range: the Virage.
They were also a but naughty and made more then they said they would (no chnage to today...)

I love it, and providing the example on sale at £135K is in good order, I think it's a conspicuous bargain in today's market. I am not a great fan of Zagato's later works but always thought this one was a fine effort, much as I love the standard William Towns DBS shape, and its derivatives.
That said, I think an early DBS V8, with the four headlamp front and chrome grille, would be my personal favourite of all the cars on this platform.
I agree....and do some Roger Moore impressions. That said, I think an early DBS V8, with the four headlamp front and chrome grille, would be my personal favourite of all the cars on this platform.
For quirky, eclectic tastes that Aston Zagato - and if you're wondering where you may have seen it before simply look at the Lancia Beta Coupe - although that was a more delicately-detailed shape, there's a strong overall resemblance.
Still, I believe the Zagato was indecently accelerative, a real Q-ship and yes, I would definitely, DEFINITELY have one - with Sarah Jessica Parker in the passenger seat (and in the back seat....and laid out on the bonnet....)

I remember receiving that same magazine and reaching the same conclusion. As much as I like Aston, the 288GTO remains my ultimate dream car. Just so right. And the film with the Zagato in with Rowan Atkinson? I believe it was 'The Tall Guy'...
ahh "The Tall Guy" ....I seem to remember enjoying that film because of the car and also because of Miss Emma Thompson's very fine breasts....dufctubs said:

Wow - I just spotted this one, too - very cool - black on black Zagato Vantage Volante

I thought all the Volantes had a different front end (with light covers?), but for some reason I really like this one.
Yes my Uncles old car, Remember when I was first in that in 1993, amazing !!http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C231490

No chance in the back, only a 2 seater and that hump might hurt.I love the looks of this V8 Zagato, always have & always will. Such a bold design & much more memorable than the Astons of the last 15 (?) years, where EVERY car looks the same! Look at todays range & can you tell one from the other?! Such a tedious unexciting range of cars, every time they appear in EVO or whereever I skip the pages.......but not THIS one!
