Hi guys,
I have some inside info on this car.. I know a few people at Alfa Romeo.
Firstly.. The US version of the 4C is delayed slightly.. AR feels the 4C in US needs some tweaking compared to the Euro version.. So the European version of the 4C will not be delayed.. It will make its production spec launch and reveal at Geneva in March 2013.
There will be a launch version of the 4C.. Specific colour and content that won't be available on the full production car.. 100 of these launch versions in LHD and 100 in RHD
The circa weight is below 900kgs..
It will have the new 1750cc engine (this has aluminum block whereas the current Giulietta QV doesn't have this. This engine is some 30kga lighter and in heavy tune can make 300bhp). But if weight is less than 900kgs it's highly unlikely this car will make more than 250bhp
Will have launch control
Will have the Alfa DNA system
Strong likelyhood that there will be a button to disable the DNA system (or at least disable the traction control. Since you currently can't disable this with the DNA system).
I was told I'll get more details and specs end of the month.. I shall post it here as soon as I get it..
All of which is officialy either denied by Alfa Italy, details refused to be confirmed or contradicted by a different dept. Alfa engineering will "scoop" confirm to you that the engine will produce 300PS, mention that to anybody on the commercial side and they will have a heart attack whilst saying "can" "can" produce 300PS!!I have some inside info on this car.. Alfa's Chef de Mission wont even confirm the car will be at Geneva. The alleged reason for this is that Sergio personally is mandating the car *must* be launched first in the States as a condition for dealers relaunching Alfa in the States. Note I say alleged. Im sure the situation will be entirely different next week.
The 4C isnt a car, its a soap opera.
Just to add to the discussion, CF is getting a little cheaper as people improve effciencies in production, but the main drivers are:
More companies can process composites now. More ovens/autoclaves etc... = greater competition.
Rising costs of alternative materials and processing costs (steel/alu etc...)
We work with Fiat on their off highway bits, the entire group is focused on weight, so this will be a key deliverable for them.

I didn't think the 8C sold anything like 40 cars in the UK?!?
As far as I know they did, my specialist had his name down for one but didn't make the shortlist Just doing a search, Autocar comes up with the following "This is just one reason why the entire production run (40 for the UK) is sold out at the premium starting price of £112,000. But the good news is Alfa hasn’t started selling Spiders yet. If you’ve £120k to spare, there’s still hope."

The 4C will be launched in Geneva.. So let's wait till March and see what happens.. As I said if I get more details or final specs on the car I'll share it..

Good grief. Even by the usual standards of journalism on here that was an astoundingly shockingly vague and/or inaccurate article.
Have you given up on getting one of these now?anomaly said:
It's pleasing that Alfa are now testing their cars in cold weather. I had a 145 that was undriveable in sub-zero weather as the handbrake would freeze in the on position.
The traction control fault light and hill hold fault warning lights comes on when temps dip below 4c on my Mito!KarlMac said:

Interesting stuff. If it is anything like in the cycling industry, VF has become cheap as chips, a lot of it coming from China, most of it being really good quality.More companies can process composites now. More ovens/autoclaves etc... = greater competition.

Ive had one "final spec" off Alfa already. It was contradicted 2 days later. I just laugh now, its not worth getting het up about.

I think you'll find yourself in a minority there. I saw this at Goodwood a couple of years ago and it was a good looking little sportscar, I thought.
The Veloster always looks a bit schizophrenic to me - Front of a Nissan GTR, rear of a Megane coupe...
