Chris, you should pop along to Alfaholics in Bristol (Clevedon), just down the road from you, and see what they are up to:

http://www.alfaholics.com/our-cars/completed-build...

500k or 60-100k....... The Singer is a proper piece of kit no doubt, but these are lovely just the same for a lot less money. They also like to do a bit of Porsche baiting.

Would be good to get your take on these machines, showcasing the talent we have on these shores, along with attention to detail etc.

A short video of Max in his GTA-R lap of Spa (which ties nicely in with your choice of T-shirt): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eg6f9RyX9IU

Enjoy.

Lovely lovely car, and I am sorry to get into the price yet again, but...

I cant help but think you as a customer are basically paying someone to re-design a car from the ground up, when its pretty bloody good to begin with.

For me, the arches and wheels are just that little bit too excessive to the degree of making it look a tiny bit cartoonish for my tastes.

A standard porsche body shell, a specialist and 20 grand on the oily bits and bobs would go a long way in my book. Hoy in a pair of recaros and im happy as a pig in shi.t...

Jesus. That Alfa is where it's it. I kind of prefer that to the Singer.

Thank you Chris! biggrin That's definitely the best video you've made ever - and also great that you didn't cut down the length. It's better for it. And WHAT a 911!!! Amazing.
well said. i guess the commercial pressure is to produce a short, retarded, forgettable, drift video for the simpletons and get 50 million youtube views.

I don't think it's even worth discussing the price of this car,
Indeed. Look at the Eagle Roadster. Same build ethos and no expense spared attention to detail, but one of those will set you back £500,000. And this cost obviously reflects the labour more than the parts, and even then a lot of man-hours won't be accounted for.

Assuming the guy was always talking in dollars, a full MIL spec wiring loom for 30k US, is about right at low volumes. It's quite easy to spend £300 on a single small connector pair, contacts, and boots when shopping for the best MIL spec connectors from Deutsch etc
And you can easily spend $2000 on a tool to crimp the pins.

Hugely impressed with Chris' work, the drive channel is great and Pistonheads/Drive is all I need for my Car news now smile.

Chris, fantastic video there. Your presenting ability has come such a long way in a relatively short space of time, remarkable. These videos feel very intimate with this style of delivery and camera work. The music during the laps was a bit suspect, but that's me struggling to criticise something. This was a genuine joy to watch and very inspiring to anyone that wants to achieve anything worthwhile.

Car manufacturers with great cars need to go through you and your team, no better way to create desire for motoring short of being sat in one.

I like most of the re-engineered specials: that Alfa, the Frontline MGB, the Jensen, Eagle... All varying degrees of mental attention to detail, brilliant.

People who like certain cars sometimes don't like admitting that various things didn't have enough time, money or care spent on them. I love those who will strip a car back to its fundamentals and make everything 'right' to their spec and even moreso make a business out of it.

Dangerous comparison - the odds are both watches will tell you the time pretty accurately and reliably.

a £3.99 digital from a garage actually does the same job...
Actually the £3.99 digital will be more accurate and do a better job telling time.

One could argue that cars are really ultimately only about getting from point A to point B and watches are just for telling time. But here's another big problem with trying to justify the 300k Singer vs. a really nice old 30k 911 by using a watch comparison: you can just open up the rear lid on either car and see they're powered by the same basic engine, the basic car structure is pretty much the same, and its driving characteristics are basically the same. Can you open up a 500k watch and see that it has the same basic movement, made initially by the the same manufacturer as the 500 watch? Does it have the same basic structure? Are its working characteristics basically the same?

On another note, I think like most people on here, I'm still thinking a lot about this car. It really inspires my imagination.

It would be an interesting exercise to figure out a rough comparison of how much all these bits and pieces would cost to apply to a 964 donor car, with the owner doing as much work as possible themselves. What would it cost to do a virtually identical car to a Singer if you are minus the bank account draining costs of shop hours and their profit margin?

I love the fact the current rating for this car is 9.56, a few more votes and it should be at 9.62 and therefore perfect!

I wonder if more older cars will get this kind of treatment, with emissions, safety and other regulations certain cars could not exist now, i.e. air cooled 911's in this case but with this you effectively get a better than new car, so, what other cars may get this treatment ?

Would anyone buy an 12 grand better than new MK1 MX5 with say 200 bhp over a new one ?
