While the MK1's handling was 'challenging' it was no more so than an older Porsche. It couldn't have been that bad once you sussed it out either since the V6 proved to be a shade faster at Bedford than the hottest Clio of the time when we back to backed them. The MK2 is altogether more resolved handling wise (but still needs full concentration on the limit) and is just plain better screwed together too adding to the feeling of more security. Both cars can be made to feel hugely improved simply by lowering the seating position which is ridiculously high as standard. BoxsterS??? Having owned a couple of I'd say they are so different that comparisons are pointless. Both versions now looking like safe places to put your money too.
Should have added that - despite thinking it's an irrelevant comparison - I doubt you can find an 2009/10 (3 years old) BoxsterS for £17k??

There was (possibly still is) a bloke on Cliosport who had supercharged his Ph1 V6. That shifted...

Above the age of 25, you'd look silly driving one of these.

I do love these, I remember there was a little story about VW misinterpreting Renaults intention with it.

Story goes that Renault were developing a "3l Clio", VW assumed this was 3l of fuel per 100km and so made the Lupo 3l economy car as a response...

How true it was I don't know but I am glad Renault did a proper job with this, they look amazing on the road.

Petrolheads look to love these, and i can see why.

Personally id prefer a faster car from A to B or more fun like a Clio Trophy for its better overall.

Had a passenger ride in one of these and i was shocked,i didn't expect it to be that fast,as on the internetz everyone says it is not,or in other words it felt very fast and much better than i expected.

Has a Mars red PH2 about 5yrs ago and it only owed me £13k, how I wish I hadn't spun it and subsequently wrote it off - the handling is very tricky in the damp - wet was fine. Really a great fun car, but ultimately not that quick a-b as I was alays worried about what eventually happened...
Always got looked at wherever I went and made a great noise (especially inside with the engine cover off - got warm quite quickly though).
Really gutted as I think it'd actually have shown me a profit if I ever sold it.

The very first Clio V6 is on a Y plate in Iliad Blue. Instead of have number 1 on the metal plate by the handbrake, it has a name inscribed: 'Tom Walkinshaw'. The car currently resides in Northamptonshire, is privately owned, and has done c.5,000 miles.

Lovely looking car. Not perfect but who cares when it looks that good! If I didn't have an Elise (or could afford another £17k)....

Wouldn't this theory just remake the Renault 5 Turbo 2?

Ah yes the BMW 130i M Sport, remarkable how it shares the same philosophy as the Clio V6, such a bespoke piece of creativity and engineering....
