That'd go down well in this day and age.
Would be a dream come true for most of us though, but I'm afraid I don't even know what a V16 sounds like! I know they made one or two and put them in special edition phantoms, but I don't pay much attention to one-offs like that.
Speaking of which, any V14 cars? Or any reason why that's a really bad idea.
V14 would vibrate really oddly. Would be a dream come true for most of us though, but I'm afraid I don't even know what a V16 sounds like! I know they made one or two and put them in special edition phantoms, but I don't pay much attention to one-offs like that.

V14s exist in marine applications (there are a couple of MAN powered ones -- in fact, the Emma Maersk has an i14 engine which you might consider a 0 degree vee.

There's a link to an article where Gordon Murray claims they considered a V14 for the F1.

Marine engines are a bit different though - operating range of 22-102 rpm according to wiki...V14s exist in marine applications (there are a couple of MAN powered ones -- in fact, the Emma Maersk has an i14 engine which you might consider a 0 degree vee.

Given what BMW have been up to of late in terms of niche filling, it's probably a front wheel drive, mid engined SUV Coupe GT crossover Cabrio, powered by a rotary diesel.
Haha genius It'll only use the rotary diesel as a range-extender though. 'Has' to be a hybrid for the future...apparently.

Should be something bonkers, along the lines of the Maybach Excelero:
But it probably won't be, a bloated coupé based on the 7 series.
"Bonkers" might be a part of the reason why Merc decided to kill off Zombie Maybach recently. But it probably won't be, a bloated coupé based on the 7 series.
Rolls Royce Motor Cars should not be "bonkers".

Why the bloody fk are they testing a Rolls on the ring??? Argh! It goes against everything RR is supposed to be about - as James May says, anyone at RR who mentions "sportiness" or "handling" should be shot mat777 said:

It does depend on what part of the package they are testing though. Not many private roads of that size and convenient locality to run a new model and check various elements out. mat777 said:

Anyone who quotes Top Gear's 'pearls of wisdom' should be shot. It's the same as going to Millbrook, except BMW have a massive presence there and have done for many years so it makes a huge amount of sense. Unless you enjoy paying 300k for a car that hasn't been developed properly?

Because it is a challenging road with with various surfaces/cambers that can be tested at (high/low) speed in controlled conditions.BMW have been testing at the 'Ring for many years. Not everything is about the lap time.

Hmmm. While Aston, Jag, LR and Lotus have managed to keep their identities under foreign ownership, I really feel that Bentley and RR, like Mini, have become caricatures of their former glories. I doubt this will change my mind. Another cynically re-engineered BMW no doubt.
While I agree with you re Bentley I profoundly disagree with BMW's treatment of Rolls Royce. All the models have been universally praised by UK journalists. They've been managed well and very sensitively and for the most part avoided the bling/footballer image now tarnishing Bentley's Conti GT. For the first time in quite a few years, the cars now have the engineering to back up the 'most luxurious car in the world' tag.mat777 said:

I am going to have to disagree with you and James May there. Go back to the heady days of the 1920's, when RR were in their prime, and the experimental upgraded Phantom test car was to be found unofficially racing against the Bentley prototype on the roads in France (this was when RR and B were separate companies). A true Royce blends refinement and performance and their cars were originally noted for both. It is all about getting to the south of France as quickly as possible, but with the minimum of fuss. Up until the current RR range the performance side of the equation had been allowed to drift, but perhaps not such an issue when Bentley was under the same roof with the Turbo R. Things are different now and a Royce needs to be able to perform with the best. Just being smooth and refined is not enough.mat777 said:
