RE: Fiesta ST prices & specs revealed
Discussion
Since when was 180bhp, a sub 7sec 0-60 & (as near as dammit 140mph) considered sub par for a hot hatch? Geee! 180bhp is a heck of a lot of poke for a shoebox!
This looks like a lot of good fun to me, similar sort of performance to a Clio 172/82 for a smidge under £17k? Looks like a bit of a bargain to me. The new fiesta drives pretty well in boggo 1L format, so this has got to be a bit of a cracker.
Is it wrong to look at a fiesta and lust? Or am I just a bit weird...

How much power do you lot feel you need in a small hatchback ?
Only one person has actually mentioned how good the Fiesta is to drive, does anyone remember when we though 130 bhp was all the power in the world, now 180 isnt enough, 0-60 under seven seconds, judge it on its own merits, not that the Renault has another few bhp, suspect even if it had 300 bhp, 4wd and cost 14 grand someone would bemona the lack of a "premium" badge and something about dashboard plastics being "horrid", "Oh you poor love, how did you cope, did the slightly less quality plastics than the Audi blight your young life"
Only been in a bog spec diesel and apart from the defunct Nokia styling to the dash which was more of an observation than a problem, was very impressed.
Ford make some brilliant cars, and I am far from a Ford fanboy, they made some howlers in the 90's but turned it round very well.

Cracking value and will be on my radar to replace the Cooper S in a few months. Recaros and a manual box... what's not to like?
The article fails to mention the ST-2 is £17,995.

Hang on a minute on the price front, Its hardly a performance bargain! I remember negotiating not a lot more than £14,000 for a Clio 200 with Cup packs, carbon trim and Recaro seats not very long ago at all. It unfortunately fell through due to personal circumstances but the point is I negotiated a perfect spec (in my mind) 200 Cup out of the showroom for a good 3k less than an ST is likely to cost once it is on the road.
AND
I bet it still doesn't drive as well as the Clio 200 Cup, or look as good.
Shame Renault is about to ruin the Clio RS completely, put the price up 10k ish from the aforementioned 14k and probably hand the 200 Cups place in the market to this ST.

I'm genuinely surprised about the styling comments on here. I know taste is all personal, but I think this looks great:
Certainly looks a damn sight better than this:
The rest of the car is fine, it's just that gaping grille I have an issue with - it's just unnesessary. It'd look great in pre facelift guise. Certainly looks a damn sight better than this:

So you negotiated 3k off a Clio late in the model life and you expect Ford to match that with their list price right out of the facelifted box? I'm sure that similar deals will be available on these in time, but its a bit much to expect Ford to release this car at GBP14k. Like the look of this and bet it will be available for some what less than £16995 after 6 months. Also not sure why everyone is so hung up on power, 180 should be plenty to make an entertaining b road car! Id imagine it will feel torquey too!
Its all about how the overall package feels to me rather than power figures.
