Wonderful!
What did W&P do to it? I've spotted the 80s grill.

I bought mine in 2006 for £1000 as a cheap alternative to a defender too. It was incredibly reliable and took it on a couple of big road trips to Scotland in the snow. I even managed 21mpg, they are quite fast along rough highland lanes, plenty of power and incredibly supple suspension keeping everything under control especially when negotiating a few rocks

I bought a K reg one a few years back for £1200 and we took it on a lap of Scotland via Orkney. On the way to Aberdeen we over took an Aston on a fast sweeping blind bend. We had the fortune of being able to see over the hedge. biggrin

That was a superb road trip.

Sold the car to a mate and it finally expired last year.
Thought I had some pictures of the Ginger Pig in Scotland:

Only sold the Ginger Pig because I found the last Overfinch conversion:

And only sold that because I found the car I'd been looking for from the start, a fully galvanised and restored 1972 2 door:

Exterior is currently being converted back to original 1972 spec and the final outcome will be a 2012 interpretation of what the Overfinch should have been. biggrin

I do quite like old Rangies. smile
I look forward to hearing more about the progress with the '72.

Is the Ginger Pig pictured outside the classic car dealer behind the Devonshire Arms? There are loads of RR's parked in nearby streets - very 'old money' smile

The man responsible for adding a zero to old Range Rover prices ... Always worth a look though.

The GP was the top one. The middle one, GH sold for me and the pics are from his Kensington showroom. The green one I travelled to the end of Wales to buy. The seller was a brilliant guy who'd spent 10 years totally restoring and galvanising everything. He'd done an amazing job and retained most of the original parts as well.

Just few of my classic.

Not the best pic because the sodium lighting in the workshop doesn't do the work put in any favours. Better ones to follow.

Mine rewarded me today with a crunch as the frame at the bottom of the drivers window gave way.

Took the door card apart and the whole door is devoid of rust, apart from the grooved device that the window sits in and pushes it up and down.

Its rotted away..

irked

That's superb. Great 80s colour scheme as well.

Do you have to dress like Don Johnson to drive it? smile

Suspect this is not too much more than the base for complete strip and restore, but if anyone's interested:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/130838478742?ssPageName=...

Even the interior looks like it's led a very hard life.

NB: No personal angle on posting the ad, it's not mine or anywhere near me, I just spotted it when searching for a 4x4 shed!

An early 90s 3.9 SE I would say - like the one you linked to. It's got 20 years of development behind it, but doesn't have the complication of using air suspension as a build up to the P38. The 3.9 tends to be more hardy than the later bigger capacity engines. You can also avoid air con and electric seats too as they weren't standard in all cars. Once you get to that point it's much more a comfortable Defender than perhaps you thought.
Ok - this gives me an interesting new avenue. Thanks.

here's my 3.9 vogue SE that I had a couple of years ago; we were using it to tow a sled around my mates 17 acre field:

I also took mine green laning whenever I could, used it as a farm vehicle where i was working and once even used it to pull a fully loaded forklift truck out of the mud. the only issue it had was that it was pulling too hard and would have pulled the truck over if I was too heavy on the throttle.

just as soon as I can afford to support these car's drinking habit, I will have another.

In defense of Graeme Hunt - I would be glad to buy the cars he has on offer from anyone of you, for a tenth of the price. So, anyone?

He's a very nice chap and easy to deal with. He spotted that more and more Londoners who had grown up in the 70s and 80s in the back of these old cars were looking for a good Classic instead of the ubiquitous black tinted Russian minicab.

The simple fact is that these are a very iconic car that was built over 3 decades thus capturing the hearts of a very wide age range. Very many have been cut about or destroyed and parts for the earlier ones are very hard to come by. A set of mint Wingards can cost £500 and waist seals and valences are close to impossible to source. 4 doors are much easier and more common hence their competitive pricing.

i'm still searching for my V8 Defender, but in the course of my hourlybiggrin daily search, I've turned up these:

Diesel Classic, very detailed description, seems honest enough BUT it's a diesel

Basic, interesting 4-door project, needs some work but could turn out OK to smoke around in

Needs some work, but low(ish) mileage and unmolested, take it for a test drive then "go back and bid 'im"!

Serious point, if anyone has or knows of a V8 Defender/90, budget up to £2k-ish for the right one, which may require work at that price, let me know please!

Is the headlining sagging a bit?
