It's about time Volvo got cool again right...?
They never have been to the masses and to most petrol heads. The amount of times you see people at track days in the morning laughing at the car, all because you are driving a Volvo estate, it is highly amusing, TBH I hope that stays that way as that smirk gets wiped off their faces pretty quickly biggrin

Great fun. cool

Now all they need to do is produce them (or at least in a milder state of tune) at a price to undercut the Germans but take the position of a more premium Subaru Impreza (since these are no longer going to be imported to the UK).

I never thought that 20 years ago I'd be saying that the mid-class Volvo was the best looking in its class but it really is.
having just bought a volvo, i've got to say that the entire range (barring possibly the old hat s80 and old as the hills xc90) are absolutely lovely to look at.

The current design language REALLY works for me, stunning looking cars, they make the usual germans look very staid and boring by comparison without resorting to crazy lines and big wings etc.....

That Volvo looked so good in the snow, I think it would be great the see a fast Volvo on the streets again, get on with making it.

Got a soft spot for Volvos especially fast one's....the polestar examples just makes it softer. I couldn't face buying an utterly dull German barge when you know somewhere out there there is a very happy person driving a blue Volvo very fast and feeling smug and unique in the process.

Dear Volvo

Please put one on my drive, and i would never ask for anything else ever again.

Yours Sincerely

Andy

Chaps, you can already get something similar to this from Volvo. If the Polestar can be likened to an RS4, then the S4 would be that standard T6 model...

3.0 straight 6 turbo, >300bhp & AWD, reasonable price too...

FAIL - its Craptronic.....................

The only reason the Volvo can match the C63 in this situation is because the runway was covered in snow, masking the ill effects of the Haldex 4wd system. Try taking a 500Hp Volvo around a bend in the dry when the Haldex is shifting (only?) 50% of the power to the rear in huge, agricultural lumps, meaning that holding any sort of drift is pretty much impossible.
The Veyron's 4x4 system is from Haldex. In that application it doesn't seem to have much of a problem with 1000ps or even 1200ps. Why would 500ps be a problem?

Have you direct information that this car has been poorly engineered?

I have a 2012 c63 Amg performance pack that cost 72k and i drove it in the snow today, from St. Albans to Cambridge and back. It was relaxing and swift. However, I certainly wouldn't specify it at as it is. I'd save nearly 6k and have a cheaper better AMG: as for 200k volvos, whatever next? £1m Lexus? A kidney for a skoda? Two testicles for an Vauxhall? This is utter, utter nonsense. (And I'm no unalloyed fan of my own car). You might as well compare Thrust2 to a Ferrari California. If they build it, I'll vote for MIlliband.
They are making 6 of these cars, that means every new part that they have to make just for this car has to be made using extremely low volume manufacturing processes (I wouldn't be surprised if they are all machined out to be honest). Not to mention a team of people would have to be paid to create this car, and with only 6 cars on sale to recoup the cost what else do you expect? That is why it's expensive.

Honestly I am stunned by the things I read on PH sometimes. You could easily have a £1m Lexus if they only made a handful of them, because it would cost a fortune to develop and manufacture.

This is why all low volume cars are expensive and mass produced things such as your Merc are seen to be good value.

Do you honestly think they're going to pocket £140k from each of these cars? I wouldn't be surprised to hear they've lost money on the project once they sell the 6.

The only thing that's nonsense is your comment that your productionised Mercedes is comparable to a prototype I'm afraid.

No it's not. That thing is over expensive period. I've seen lots of short runs for less money. A lot less. A team paid to create......please. Most of the work has already been done. Chassis development had already started with the 300BHP version etc etc.

Can you give me a breakdown of costs for the Polestar?

Show your working.

Its because LEDs pulse hundreds of times a second when they are lit. You don't see this through the naked eye but something to do with the frame rate of the camera makes it visible.

How can this be worth £200,000?

It may be rare and fast, but it is a Volvo saloon with similar qualities to the best in class such as C63, M3, RS4 or even the Rs6 and M5. But these all cost significantly less.

How can they place this price on it! It makes it a joke rather than a serious exercise.

It's a straight six, not a V6.

£200,000 is just bizarre when you think you can have 500bhp cars from Audi, BMW, Jaguar and Mercedes for circa £75,000.

I love the 'concept' because that is what it is at this stage. Hence £200k.
Agree with all sentiments of Volvo Scandinavian cool...

1.looks cool, love the blue.
2.performance looks amazing.
3.definite niche in the £35-55k 4wd mental semi-luxury / premium dept.
4.makes Audi/Merc/BMW photocopies look very dull.
5.agree with previous comments as niche mid-30s man looking for premium fast alternative.
6.agree with upmarket Impreza STI option.

Volvo just blooming get on with it! Great video from Harris enjoy the niche discussion.

Make a 'killing' cool motor to follow on from BTCC barge heaven.

Plus my own version...
