Really not doing anything for me, the height of the lardy sports car. Fingers crossed for lighter cars on the horizon.
Just wait until 2008 when the new, lighter-than-350Z 370Z comes out.Thats a decent amount of car for not a huge amount of money, the milieage isn't an issue as long as appropriate servicing has been undertaken and it sounds like it has.
The 350Z is generally good value for money all round. A decent engine with enough usuable power that pulls nicely. A well balanced chassis and weight distribiution, meaning its predictable but still fun to drive.
It's also blessed with a certain amount of 'tweakability' to improve things without it costing an arm and a leg, unless you go down the Turbo or SC route.
Agreed, the plastics may not be up to too much, especially in the early cars. She is a fairly weighty girl and could have done with a bit of trim. The boot strut does add great rigidity, but its a pity it was needed.
All of those points could have been resolved with better materials, lighter materials or improved body and chassis dynamics. However, that would have significantly added to the asking price, which goes against the concept of the car.
Its a bargain GT with a great engine that can put a smile on your face on those A and B roads. It won't cost you the same amount of loot to service as some of the offerings from its competitors. It's also retained a little bit of brutish exclusivity, because despite all the above, you still don't seem that many around.
I'm biased of course, but having considered a numder of cars and models available within my budget, the 350Z did it for me then and I still enjoy driving it.

Christ-knows who does those sorts of mileages in a car that will struggle to crack 25mpg though!
One of us I'm off to the bank at lunchtime...
When the new AM V8 Vantage first came out, I borrowed one and drove from coast to coast in it in a day. On the M5 I was following a Nissan 350Z and he decided to step on it. If I had tried, which I didn't of course, I would have found it difficult to catch up with it. If I had had a passenger, they would have been surprised at how fast the Nissan was and how slow the Aston was. In such a situation one might have concluded that the AMV8 needed a bigger engine than its original 4.0 V8. Oh and the seats were uncomfortable too, sorry, would have been uncomfortable.

...oh man, i'm off the classifieds again . I have been tempted by one of these for ages, more so now I rarely have to use my car to commute. Having said that i'm having fun with the MR2 at the moment and reckon I will keep that for a bit. I took a 350z out for a test drive from a Nissan dealership a couple of years back and loved my short drive - it felt chunky, powerful and purposeful much like I remember my s14 200sx feeling (different power delivery though, obviously). A 350z is defo on the cards in the future if circumstances allow!

The new Mustang isn't a million miles away from these really, but then I'd have to go for a 65, they're ridiculously cheap at the moment.
Edit: wow, http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/f...
Thats £13.5k so i don't understand the comparison with a £3.5k 350z. Edit: wow, http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/f...

Also what do you mean by "new" mustang? the post 2004 type? They don't start at much less than £9k and that is for a LHD, plus the real kicker, they drive AWFUL. I have rented several in the states and yes fine (and fun) for over there with long straight roads, but not comparable to a 350z AT ALL. Dim witted autobox, too wide for the UK, really crappy build quality, and i haven't driven one that didn't feel as if at least a third of its 300 odd horses hadn't left the stable never to return. If I lived in the states i would have one in a heartbeat, but an irrelevant car for the UK.
I've had mine for fourteen months and about 11,000 miles (it's now on about 45,000).
It's my only car so does the commute, shopping, days out and the odd track day.
In my opinion (if you can live with two seaters) it is an excellent all rounder.
Not as quick as some cars can be for the same money (Impreza, Evo etc.), but for me, it's a pleasurable event every time I climb in. And I enjoy just standing around looking at it!
Apart from wear and tear parts and service items I've not had to replace a thing.
Although the Bose stereo isn't as reliable as you'd hope it would be.
I've had nothing but positive reaction to it, and I was once even followed home and given a phone number from a very attractive married lady!!!
I can't see me replacing it until I save up the money and the courage to buy a sub £11k Porsche 996.

Have a bit more of a think then Failing that try my profile. Although I admit it fails the under 10 year bit.
Leggy 330ci perhaps? RX8 as already mentioned, cant think of much else that ticks the same boxes as the Z.....

In terms of "modern muscle", yes, I suspect they compare in terms of character, if not power n poise. However, even a V6 (210bhp) S197 Mustang is going to set you back £7-10k.....the V8 with 300bhp more like £10-15k depending on spec and mileage. Both might appeal to a similar buyer though. When looking to replace my 300zx, the 350Z was on my shopping list, but the lack of rear seats meant I looked elsewhere.........and ended up with a Mustang
But that's a lovely car in a lovely colour and a great price!

I like 350Zs. Nice, heavy controls make it feel like an old-fashioned musclecar... in a good way.
Christ-knows who does those sorts of mileages in a car that will struggle to crack 25mpg though!
But at this price, it would make a great toy.
At an average price of £4 per gallon between 2003 and 2012, the fuel bill alone on this car would have been around the £30,000 mark. EeekkChrist-knows who does those sorts of mileages in a car that will struggle to crack 25mpg though!
