And I disagree again - there are a few get out clauses, i agree there, but at £425 a year from my local Land Rover dealer, it's a no brainer to me!
fair point but your profile says you have a 2010 car?

in your case makes perfect sense

apologies - i meant for older cars

Yes just gone out of warranty in early January, they are sneaky though, try to sell you one at £1125 per year, but don't tell you about the exact same on they also offer for what I paid! Now that is naughty!

most people on here saying RR reliable, they will be if you bought it 3/4 years old, in my experience when they get to 8 years old the repairs could cost more than the RR. usual faults,Engine, Diesel, fuel pump, injectors, could cost £2,000,petrol,head gasket, head problems,£2,000 plus
gearbox goes at 90-120k cost £2-£2,2500, Air suspension £250 a corner,£1-£1500 for main units. Various suspension parts for Mot can be very costly. Interior ,dead pixels on radio/computer, drivers door card sags,(more expensive than you would think). exterior, rust on tailgate under glass, condensation in lights.
i would recommend buying one with a warranty, low amount of owners, and below 100k,ooh and keep 5 grand set aside.
5 grand set aside? There really is some 'pub expert' comments on this thread.

I'm going to get an L322 next. Yes, they have problems but they are still one of the best cars out there smile

I Ran a 54 plate 80000 mile for nearly two years V8 on LPG.
Normal servicing plus a small radiator leak the only faults over 20000 miles.
Spent alot on upgrades, wheels etc but nothing like five grand.

Hmm lets see what I've spent the last 10 months:

Major Faults:

- Gearbox judder, needed new oil, about £270 including labour and new filter

Minor Faults

- Heated seats being dopey: £0 (pulled them apart and plugged stuff back in)
- Servicing costs: £700 (big service and new brake pads and discs)
- MOT: £300 (need a suspension bush doing, which is a pig of a job)

Consumables:

- Tyres: £1000 (4 new Pirelli Scorpion M&S)

Upgrades:

- Compomotive wheels: £870 (for winter / off road)
- Winter tyres: £820 (smaller wheel size = cheaper tyres)
- Supercharger pulley change and oil replacement: £400
- Custom stainless freeflow exhaust + sports cats and remap: £1500 (drone free, makes the car sound like a beast)

Fuel:

- £7000

Would I change it for anything else? Er ... only new Supercharged one!

For sure, I was trying to say even with my spending on upgrades the cost was not close to five thousand punds.
You are right but a right one and its a great car to own.
I looked at over twenty in the buying process for my one in question.

Love mine, put some decent AT tyres on and it's as good as my Defender, an extended LR warranty is a must though in my opinion.
Totally agree. A few years ago, I bought an 04 4.4V8 from a Land Rover Main Dealer. Thank goodness I did, as the gearbox went within the first week of my ownership, resulting in a brand new unit being fitted under warranty.

We are thinking about trading my wife's Touareg in for a V8 Diesel at the moment and, to be honest, I would only buy from either an official Land Rover dealer or a very, very well respcted marque specialist who offered a solid warranty.

They are superb cars, but when they go wrong.......

An HSE lacks the supremely comfortable Lux seats of the Vogue, and the sat-nav and TV and the DSP sound processor and the leather dash and heated rear seats for starters.

Being a high-mile Td6 it may need a new gearbox soon-ish or may have just had one. I suspect the former as the seller would have highlighted that if it had been replaced.

On the plus side, it's nicely original.

I drive the V8 Vogue, so am biased towards the V8's effortless waftability and generally better reliability.

Early sat-nav is like an Etch a Sketch and about as useful. Do Dynavins work in the Vogue nowadays? Seem to remember they weren't compatible with the DSP stuff.

Just got rid of my 2006 SC for a new 3.0 litre L405.

It was really sad seeing her go after 85000 trouble free miles. What went wrong; Heated Steering Wheel packed up and "grand cherokee" sold me one he had spare. Also had to replace the reversing camera. There were a couple of other bits that I can't remember so not significant.

An absolutely brilliant car thumbup

Going for a thread resurrection!

Am I going to explode and die if I buy a ~100k mile 2004/2005 Vogue V8?

It seems the engine and box on these are pretty solid. If I hunt for one thats been looked after then it doesn't seem too much of a bad prospect? I'd been looking at Cayennes but the V8 version has engine failures and the V6 seems to be too slow for a car of that size.

Unlikley, I've posted on this thread already but had a 2002 V8 Vogue bought very cheap a couple of years ago with 155k on it. Did circa 10k+ in a year. It needed the usual servicing and consumables and a pair of front airbags and a lambda sensor. From memory it might have needed a front diff repair as well but if I can't remember it it hardly broke the bank.

Biggest money pit of a car I've ever owned. Should have known better because I had a Discovery before it which was no better. In one word, my advice to prospective owners of an L322 RR is DONT!
Gearbox's WILL go wrong at about 100k miles, £2000 for recon unit fitted. Replacement injectors £1000, new turbo £1000, air suspension problems. They look the business but believe me the novelty will soon wear off when you are forking out all the time to keep it running.

But once you've done the repairs (and you wont get all of them at once) you're back to a wagon thats good for another 100k miles, surely?

Looking at them myself, £15k gets you a 6-7 yr old, either TDV8 or proper V8.

gearbox problems as I recall are on diesel cars - not the V8 petrol?

just sold a 2005 4.4 V8 and the new owner had the gearbox checked by a specialist - verdict is absolutely perfect with no faults

now have an L405 - lets see how they are in 8 - 10 years?

Was it an early diesel by any chance? It's well known and publicised that the gearboxes aren't up to the job so it's expected.
