+1 Most disappointing.
I've got a couple of memories of the group B era.
I went to watch a friend at a north Wales rally he was running a private 6R4 but as he was in with a chance of the title he had a bit of works support - they changed the gearbox and transfer box, as a precaution, in minutes.
Same rally - as it was just before the RAC Stig Blomqvist was entered in a RS200 - stood at one 90 right, Stig entered a lot, lot faster than my friend - he won the title but, with even that small look at the corner entry speed, you could see the difference between a really good club driver and the professionally drivers.
Second memory.
Mid 80's RAC, driving the service barge on the M62(?) in a traffic jam, I moved over to allow Michele Mouton to over take in the grass next to the armco in the centre of the motorway - and she thanked me!
I've got a lot more happy memories of the RAC, watching, marshalling, working etc.
But now what is the WRC?
Group B gone but not forgotten.

Standing in Grizedale on a cold November night was something I will never forget as the Group B monsters hurled down the icy tracks with discs glowing and exhausts flaming. As a marshall it was a nightmare as spectators used to the speed of Escorts failed to respond quick enough to our whistles and were often very close to the cars as they roared by.
Brilliant day, Darn cold but oh so worth it....
I understand that some people on here might sound wronged by it being an invite only event, but show the interest and not the gripe and momentum could gather for more!
Don't forget this was a non profit event set up purely by enthusiasts in their spare time.
The reaction to things like this just shows the passion for group B remains...

Congratulation to all the owners who took their superb/valuable cars out for a private event.
If possible we would really like to see them in action in a more public event, these cars can never be forgotten and deserve more than being static exhibits.
There is still a ur quattro in the family plus its superb later version RS2, so all these icons demand fresh air.

Fantastic! Is that Arne Hertz having a cheeky smoke before the flag drops at 1.32? Excellent - can't fault the 80's!rawy said:

Just sticking my pedant hat on (not my pendant hat that would be weird), the SD1 is Group A and the Ascona and Chevette were Group 4.Opel Manta Safari spec
