RE: PH Carpool: Ferrari Mondial
Discussion
Strangely enough i was talking to my neighbor on Saturday who has an absolute Minter of a Mondial in red it's only done 20k Miles he's had it for over 10 years he came over to ask what i had under the bonnet of my Audi,(Supercharged V6) funny how cars break down barriers I've lived here for 2 years as well !
I admire you for buying the car however I can't help but think that it's the poor mans ferrari but yet for the money you have spent you could get some lovely cars.
I hope it's reliable and am glad you are enjoying it, each to their own but as a petrolhead if you like it that's all that matters.

Perception and reality are very different with the Mondy. It was more expensive new than the 308, 328 or 348 of the time, and outsold them.
Do you really think people in that market would have bought a rubbish car for so much money in such numbers?

Yes, totally ruins the looks in my opinion!I'm not a fan of modernising cars in that way either - nothing wrong with the stock wheels unless you're fancying a bit less sidewall, in which case, something non-OEM might be less faux...

Rear wheels look weird on that - spacered??

Pretty sure it is just the offset and that they are wider than OE. I like that car except for the wheels. I reckon that with stock 348 or 355 rims it would work very well.I'm not a fan of modernising cars in that way either - nothing wrong with the stock wheels unless you're fancying a bit less sidewall, in which case, something non-OEM might be less faux...
Evening all, and thanks for the kind words.
Yes the date is a small error on my behalf, it was the end Feb 2012, in the rain just after pay day
The Wales trip was an exceptional test if i am honest, most of my friends were in on the sweep stake for how long it would last. Trying to keep a bunch of Sevens, a WRX Scooby and other more modern and capable machines moving at a sensible but entertaining pace through the pouring rain over the small mountain roads was asking quite a bit, but it passed surpassing all (and my own) expectations. I'll not go into details as such here, but the damages were all easily fixed and should be considered as exceptional costs rather than common faults.
The classic was a fantastic event, my first in fact and a welcome change to the main event. The "parade laps" were eer....spirited shall we say. I had done a session much earlier in the morning 2 up in lighter traffic and seen 130+, but 4 up in amongst all this traffic did focus the mind a bit more.... My passengers encouragement was quite funny, especially watching it again, but i just remember being in fear of stacking it in front of such a public audience. The gloves were needed to dry my palms
Still enjoying it, got the car out this last weekend for a quick tinkle on the valve springs, after the winter gloom i needed a little happiness and a smile on my face.

I drove my uncle's grey Mondial yesterday for the first time so this is an amazingly apt PH carpool. It is also going on sale in the next few weeks so if anyone would like pictures and details just send me a message. It is a 1983 LHD car imported from Italy in 2012 where it has been dry stored so it has no rust. It's in really good condition but he has too much stuff to use so it has to go. OIRO £16,000.

arent the early mondials often said to be a bit gutless compared to the T models?OP is obviously going to use this car but the main thing that puts me off a cheap(ish) old Ferrari is the fact that most of these 25-35 year old cars seem to have done about 1000 miles a year. It's true, they nearly all seem to have 25-35k miles on the clock so it begs the question....are owners frightened to use them and do they have good reason?
What are the implications of using these like an old 911 and racking up the miles?

Not sure about the looks of a Mondial?
It's amazing what a bit of colour keying, lowering and set of Challenge alloys can do to a late Mondial T

I always believed losing the Metro HLE-alike rear window spoiler would massively improve the balance of the design.
Not entirely sure what the inevitable German tiefer, breiter, dummer, modifications do to the balance of the chassis though...

Mine had over 100k on it and I never shied from putting more on it.What are the implications of using these like an old 911 and racking up the miles?
I would suggest they benefit from use.
