Perhaps we should be campaigning to get compulsory driving tests brought in every 3 or 5 years? This would get rid off muppets who are incable of driving to the speed limit.

Obviously everone on PH would have no problem passing the driving test so no issue there wink

The numerous car drivers on the A1 this afternoon/evening doing <55mph in lane 1, forcing trucks to overtake them, thereby reducing both lanes of the A1 to a constant 50-55mph crawl for 150 miles.

It's bad enough that trucks pull out and crawl past each other with a 0.5mph speed differential, but don't give them more reasons to pull out of lane 1 FFS. If you can't manage to do >60mph, get off the fking road you muppets.

On the A458 between Shrewsbury and Cressage there's a 1.5km stretch of arrow-straight road.

I was driving down there the other night, behind a queue of about 3-4 cars behind a HGV travelling at 40 (which is fine, it's their speed limit after all)

I waited a little while to see if anyone was going to overtake - nope, so I looked for oncoming traffic and saw a car way off in the distance (just joining the straight bit), so I indicated, checked mirror, pulled out and booted it. Plenty of room to overtake the whole queue and pull back in.

The car coming towards me started flashing his headlights manically while I was about halfway through the manoeuvre.

After I pulled back on to my side of the road, a good 4-5 seconds passed before we drew level where I saw he was giving me coffee beans.

I guess that was done officially to correct an error. It is not lawful to show only metric measurements.

Nope - this is the sign coming from the other direction, in metric...

There's a militant bunch down here in the SE that go round masking out the metric portion of any height/width restrictions on signs. They do it to all sorts of signs, permanent and temporary, in all sorts of locations, gantries, bridges etc. It's quite amusing really. I admire their dedication!!

The black 3-series compact doing 50+ down the hard shoulder of the M1, past stop start traffic, for the 2nd time this week. This evening he was a good mile and a half from the junction...

Nice car. Do I need a 60 inch HD tv to see the scratches though?

The fucensoredwit who took about 2 miles of empty duel carriageway to overtake me, when they did it was in a 'dive-bomb' type manoeuvre as I was indicating and braking for a NSL road turning. Fucensoredwit then did a cool 35mph on the clear NSL road. What a bell end.

The selfish tt who overtook me while I was driving on some fresh loose chippings, showering my car in stones furious on a side note, who thought 'resurfacing' a road in that st was a good idea? I'd rather drive over potholes!

Good on them, we're not a metric country ffs. I refuse to use metric at all if it's avoidable.

Aren't we? Most measures have to in metric legally apart from a few specific exceptions for road signs and the like.

It feels like 15-20 years ago that all the weights legally changed to grams.
I remember all the news articles about stret traders having to buy new weights for their scales.

In fact, I can't remember the last time that a gym I used still had a bit of equipment still using pounds and not kilos on the discs or plates.

It would be better if some of our BBC licence money could be put into 'public information adverts'.

The theme could be 'don't be a tt' and they could cover the obvious things like

Don't pull out on people when there isn't really room to do it.
How to use a roundabout.
Indicators - the forgotten way of the zen driver.
Why you were a road victim, after being a tt and giving coffee beans instead of saying sorry.
A mirror is for lifelong driving, not just for parking badly in supermarkets.
What do those white lines actually mean?
Yes, the rules apply to anyone, even you when you are in a hurry.

Much better use of public money than some of the other st the MPs come up with.
