I vote HER.

Tailgating is completely unnecessary and ultimate in knobbery.

I may get flamed for this, but here is mine from today.

Woman tailgating, and looking into the passenger footwell, paying next to no attention in front of her.

So stayed at a steady throttle, but pressed brake peddle enough to show the brake lights.

The next time she looked up, she smashed her brakes hard enough to lock up, swerve left, and bounce off the curb, hard enough to point her towards the center of the lane again. Couldn't have done her tracking any good.

She flashed her lights, honked the horn, and stopped. I just carried on.

So am I an knob, or is it all on her?

Why's the speed limit 60?
I don't think he's saying it is, he's just travelling at 60, which as he's keeping left and letting people overtake it seems perfectly reasonable.
Other than "because road sign" I've no idea. It just is...

...and here (on the right) is the 'suicide gap' through the central reservation from which she emerged...

Knob, just slow down so the speed you are going is suitable for the distance she is following you at. Or pull over as she might want to go faster than you, just don't panic her by pretending to brake and causing a collision.

So I have to pull over every time someone wants to go faster than me?

I think not.

Given the (over) reaction by pretending to brake/slow down, I'd hate to think what would happen had the OP actually slowed down!

If someone is dangerously tailgating you then that's the best option. Just let them pass or make the overtake as easy as possible for them, it's the most stress free way with dealing with idiots.

The chances of this are so remote as to be unworthy of consideration IME. I'd gladly place a bet that if blackwoodsman had let her past, she'd slow down with no one else to follow and would then be holding him up .

I don't know why so many women tend to tailgate, but it's rarely because they are being aggressive or that they want to get past, it just seems like they feel comfortable driving very closely to the car in front.

I find a quick flash of the brake lights (no actual slowing down) often seems to wake this sort of tailgater up, and they drop back a bit.
Never had a reaction like the one above.

I'd guess this, I've had women practically riding on my rear bumper despite the fact that we're the only two cars on the road (and it was a dual carriageway so no on coming traffic either) with no sign of wanting to overtake.

Yes, the official term for this is 'brake testing' and is usually carried out by knobs.

Indeed! pull over and get out of the way. It's better to be courteous to each other. You have no right to hold her up as much as she has a right to intimidate you into going faster. So let her overtake, I'm not saying pull over as in stop the car and let her go by as that would be stupid and overly delaying. I'm saying move left and make the overtake easy if they want it. Then you're not pissed off about having a tailgater and they're not pissed off by someone apparently dawdling about in front of them.

Also hate this queue culture that seems to be forming where nobody knows how to overtake and seems to get a real bee in their bonnet when others do.

Of course I allow other people to overtake me if they want, and I am happy to bimble along behind a slower car if there are no safe overtaking oppertunities.

I was referring to the odd driver who gradually closes up on you in the left lane of a 2 or 3 lane carriageway with no intention of overtaking, or even bullying you to go faster, they just slowly drift closer and closer, seemingly hypnotised.

If she pulled left and hit the kerb, then surely this means that their was only one lane?

There are plenty of dual carriageways / two lane roads with kerbs. Take any major cities ring roads as an example?

I don't think the OP mentioned a dual carriageway.

No, brake testing is this.

What I did, was show the lights, but not actually slow down.
