People who refer to Halloween as an American tradition, it has its roots in Samhain, a Celtic tradition that has been observed since the Middle Ages. Long before America was even discovered.

They probably meant the commercialism - Trick or Treat/pumpkins and all that stuff..

Not the date itself - otherwise the comment would not make any sense.

Is there any answer to this problem? I usually flash my lights once (which, as I read the rules, is not unlawful) just to indicate that I am there. I then sometimes indicate left and slowly move into lane 1 in the hope that they copy me. If not, I have been known to make very sure that they can see me and then move past in lane 1.

I don't think this is "undertaking" for the purposes of the Highway Code, but no doubt someone will disagree. Once it is established that the person in L2 is not playing by the rules, I am simply proceeding normally in L1 while someone else (bizarrely) chooses to occupy L2 (in breach of the H C).

If it is not OK to eventually just pass in L1, what is supposed to happen? Everyone queues up behind the car in L2 or, even worse, queues up in L1?
I dont believe a word of this story.................empty A303 indeed!

Yes, it was a bit odd, did north Dorset to near Cambridge in three hours, not a single speed restriction round the M25.

Admittedly it was a Saturday morning but not super early.

As for the legality, I did think I made it illegal by briefly entering L2, but I wanted the first car to have a chance to move over.

Somehow I could tell the 2nd car was away with the fairies.

it's a nested tradition... like Xmas. The original thing yes fine, but the modern tradition built on top of it, that's basically an american thing. Santa and the coca cola truck don't have anything to do with paganism either, and they are also an american thing that have become a modern tradition. Most annoyingly, complaining about Xmas has also become part of the modern tradition, so by moaning I'm actually participating. Argh.

I was trick or treating in the seventies, granted we weren't rich enough for pumpkins, we had turnips but it's nothing new.

LOL.

I can believe it, maybe. Many moons ago, I drove from Fareham to east Cornwall, (via Plymouth), in a shade under 2 1/2 hrs! Now thats a ste road as many a sailor will tell you!

Halfwits who stroll along the side of the busy A331 with their back to the traffic in lane 1, then cross all four lanes and the central reservation on foot, before strolling back down the other side of said busy NSL dual carriageway to a car parked partly on the verge, which is not displaying hazard lights. All this observed from a bridge over the damned road which would have allowed him top cross safely from one side to the other.

That Maclaren driver deserves a lot of respect.

His post was very good reading and he obviously has more class than the GTR driver and his mate.

Horrendous stuff, even worse that 'R4LLY' is obviously the GTR driver. If it really were a well meaning friend defending the GTR driver, I expect he wouldnt be able to see past his mates balls to type.

yes...Big respect goes to him from his response.

I have never been on any track days although my insurance covers me with exception of the The Ring and Spa,so is the incident investigated before it goes to insurance via track day officials. If it is clearly one driver at fault does he pay for both or is taking your car on track at your own risk and you have to use your own insurance what ever happens.

Technically it's tough luck afaik, you crash or are crashed into then you repair your car unless you or the crashee has some insurance to cover third parties or you your own car.

If neither are insured the general consensus always seems to be gentlemanly rules, if you punt someone off or wreck their car and it's obviously your fault you help them repair it and pay for or at least pay towards the costs. Though I've never heard or witnessed it tbh.

If push comes to shove and if the TDO thinks the driver is an utter mong and unsafe to other drivers they would be asked to leave.

The key concept of track days and the rules set out in the briefings is to avoid such incidents, I've come close to contact only on one occasion I can remember and it was a case of misreading car/driver body language. I apologised for being such an oafish fool to the other driver at the earliest opportunity and drove around the person more carefully afterwards.

Thanks for your reply GrumpyTwig.

I had always presumed you couldn't get anywhere near a track without showing your track cover insurance.

When I asked a few questions to my insurance (Classicline) they informed me that if I wish to take part in a track day then to contact them with dates and venue and they issue a letter.

Thanks again.

I was on track at RSOC National day must be 12 years ago in my RS1600i,not the fastest car out there or the best

driver but I got headlamps flashed at me by a RS Turbo on track because he wanted to pass.

If he was so quick and awesome driver, just overtake.

We had a "discussion" in the pits afterwards.

Enjoyable day for enthusiasts spoilt by that knob.

I understood that it's etiquette to move out the way a bit to facilitate, not to just ignore them completely.

He was being an arse and if an RST can't take a tired RS1600i round Donington then he needs help.

I wasn't weaving or driving in the centre of the track.
