Driving back from the theatre last night from Nottingham to Derby along the A52 I came across an unbelievable cretin. I was pootling at a cruise controlled 70, approach a Golf in lane 1 so pull out to overtake, but as I do the Golf pulls into L2 as well despite there being no other car in front of him. So I wait behind him for maybe 30 seconds wondering what's he doing, but he carries on in L2. I flash my lights so he knows I'm there but he ignores me, this continues for a mile with other cars now behind me, still the Golf overtaking nothing. Flash my lights a few more times and he gives me the finger and continues in L2. Another half a mile and he indicates and pulls back into L1 but as I overtake he's waving his hands around like crazy, then starts flashing his lights. As other cars pass him that are behind me, I notice he doing the same to them as well. Few hundred yards later, he takes the exit onto Pride Park?!?!

So he blocks my overtake, as well as blocking anyone else, gets angry when others want to pass only for him to want to take an exit which requires him to be in L1 anyway. What is wrong with people?

Pulled up behind one of those Up!'s today. Small car so I could see in pretty clearly. The young girl driving had got an Iphone on a Sat Nav mount. Nothing wrong with that obviously, it was set almost level with her rear view mirror which is a bit odd but not illegal. However, it was not set to Sat Nav. It was quite clearly set to her Facebook profile.

As she drove off she started to scroll through it...
Unbelievable.

The "threat" of 3 points and a fine is clearly not deterrent enough for people who persist in using mobiles at the wheel. You only have to follow a pedestrian using a smartphone to see how it affects concentration on what's around them. I wonder if confiscating the phone on which these people seem to be umbilically reliant on might actually be more of a deterrent?

This morning's example was the powefully built hair product enthusiast in an Audi TT under- and overtaking on the very short stretch of (40mph) dual carriageway just before the A10/M11 junction on the outskirts of Cambridge.

Without indicating. At 6:45am. In the fog. To be 2 cars further ahead at the roundabout. Congratuf%^&lations, you total prick.

I used to lift share to Uni with a young girl (I was a mature student). As soon as she got on the dual carriageway she'd be straight out into L2. I think I managed about ten minutes before I had to say something. She genuinely hadn't got a clue that L2 was for overtaking and she'd only passed her test the year before. I don't think her instructor was up to much.

Are you SURE it was an Iphone??

It sounds more likely it was a Samsung Galaxy, or such to me. wink

He was simply undertaking (did you see what I did there?) his Civic duty and preventing a bunch of mad arsed sods from exceeding the speed limit. (Which, in his mind, might well be 60 mph, so you were well over. And, yes, I know it was a Golf not a Civic)! smile

Seriously, though, on the basis that the only legitimate reason for him being in that lane is to turn right at the next junction (which may well be ten miles away!) and knowing he was aware of my presence, I would have passed him in Lane 1.

Any stupid, dangerous reaction to that ovetake would have been brought to the attention of the Police. (One of the reasons I have cameras front and rear).

I witnessed probably the worst / most incompetent display of driving this morning that I've seen in months.

Some hero in an 05 reg Cooper S on the anticlockwise M25 this morning at Chertsey was ambling along in Lane 2, clearly half asleep, and realised he was missing his junction. The resulting emergency stop and triple erratic lane change with no awareness or consideration for what was behind him or to his left, almost caused three separate accidents. The first of which was missed by such a tiny amount that I was waiting for the bang and shower of bits. How the van driver he carved up while travelling 40 mph slower avoided him, I will never know. The car in front of me had it easier as he was only doing 20 mph when the idiot cut him up, but the third guy he nosed out into the (free flowing) left hand slip road lane in front of had less time to react, but thankfully had the presence of mind to swerve on to the hard shoulder. There was a fag paper in it.

I hope the numerous blaring horns registered the degree of disapproval from other road users in his head, but judging by that display, I seriously doubt it. Causing three vehicles to take emergency avoiding action in less than ten seconds. Good work! rolleyes

BBC said:
A driver almost ran a fire engine off the road by refusing to let it overtake on the way to an emergency call-out, a court heard.

John McIntyre was banned from driving following the incident on the A85 on 19 April.

The 67-year-old made a rude gesture at firefighters when they eventually managed to pass him, having twice had to take evasive action while trying to overtake with lights and siren on.

McIntyre was also fined £450.
What a wker! furiousfurious

That is unbelievable. I only wish it was a raging inferno at Mr McIntyre's house that the fire engine was trying get to.

This to me was the worst part:

BBC said:
The Crieff man admitted driving carelessly by failing to let the appliance pass and forcing it to take evasive action, although his solicitor said McIntyre "did not feel he had been doing anything wrong".

Are the courts allowed to issue lifetime bans? If not they should be able to because that mans attitude could cost someone their life. It's high time we stop treating driving like a right and forced the irresponsible and reckless off our roads permanently.

There isn't a 'threat'. There are hardly any BiB on the roads and those that are , are probably going to miss the daft bint because they are updating their Facebook.

While I'm sure if by some miniscule chance she was spotted by a police officer they would get in some sort of trouble the offence is for hand held use of a phone is it not? I can imagine this dozy bint thought she was OK because it was in a mount.

I nominate myself. The top of my street is a busy road, which although straight has poor visibility due to railings and parked cars. When turning right it is rare to get a gap, so if it is clear to the right and only one car approaching from the left it is usually a good idea to get out as soon as the traffic from the left passes - ie. start moving out as it passes by.

Unfortunately the car from the left was actually turning into my road, and because he was slowing I misjudged it and almost drove into him. I did apologise but he didn't look too impressed. nono

The driving instructor teaching their (not very confident) pupil how to reverse park in the local Tesco car park this afternoon. It wouldn't have been to much of a problem if they were doing it in some empty spaces, but instead the instructor had decided to use 2 parked cars for target practice banghead

The instructor only just reached the dual brake in time to stop the lad lurching backwards and ttting the driver side door of the BMW M3 they were attempting to park next to. Then on pulling forward again the lad nearly scraped the front corner panel of the Yaris in the space to their other side banghead

The instructor didn't seem too bothered and was even having a bit of a laugh at the near miss. He didn't look as happy when he noticed the owner of the M3 had returned to his car and seen what had happened. Last thing I could hear was the M3 owner suggesting that if the instructor wanted to teach the lad how to reverse park between cars maybe he should go back to his own house and do so between his own cars so that way he was only risking damage to his own property, not other people's.

The event: Wedding Anniversary.
The place: Restaurant in Wokingham.
Our table: By the window.
Knob behaviour: Smokers talking, shouting and drinking right outside said window.
Result: We could barely concentrate on our oak smoked salmon, the seared duck breast in a lightly poached orange jus with a gooseberry foam, and as for the bottle of Crystal!! Happy Anniversary.

No alternative table available?

When two knobs meet (almost literally!):

Black Van (driven at slowish pace by coffin dodger) enters roundabout from Lane 2, in front of me, signalling right. (There is no right turn available, apart from a complete revolution of roundabout).

White Van, a press-on type, having passed me on my near-side, attempts nearside overtake of Black Van on approach to straight-on exit.

Gets cut-up royally by Black Van ... which is still signalling right as it exits roundabout aiming for Lane 1!

(I was hanging back, just waiting for the Big Bang)!

yikes
